Doug Hammer, left, will perform tomorrow. Guitarist
John Jarvie will perform in Florence on Sunday, Sept.
20.
Learn how his music came
to be and what drives him.
From soft and gentle to
open and dynamic, Hammer’s
styles cross a wide landscape:
pop, new-age, jazz, classical,
blues and ragtime.
Hammer’s concert will be
in the home of local piano
teacher Kathy Parsons in
Sandpines West, performed
on her grand piano.
The address and directions
will be furnished when reser-
vations are made.
House concerts provide
both the artist and the audi-
ence with an intimate musical
experience and the opportuni-
ty to interact “up-close and
personal.”
CDs and songbooks will be
available for sale and for
autographing.
To reserve seats, call
Parsons at 541-999-9720 or
email her at kathypiano
@gmail.com.
There is a suggested dona-
tion of $15 to $20 at the door
for each performance. All
donations go to the artist.
Next, classical guitarist
John Jarvie returns to perform
in concert Sunday, Sept. 20,
at 3 p.m.
Jarvie has performed clas-
sical guitar music publicly for
more than 30 years in both
casual and formal concert set-
tings.
In the words of Register-
Guard music critic Fred
Crafts, “Jarvie is a spectacu-
larly gifted artist who com-
mands the fingers of a virtu-
oso and the sensitivity of a
poet.”
Jarvie earned his music
degree at the University of
Oregon.
In 1971, he designed and
initiated the Guitar Studies
program at the U of O Music
School and taught there for 12
years. He taught concurrently
at Lane Community College
and continues to teach there.
Jarvie has given concerts to
enthusiastic audiences in
many Northwest venues, most
notably performances of the
Concierto de Aranjeuz with
the Eugene Symphony, and a
shared program with flautist
Paul Horn at the Portland
Civic Auditorium.
Jarvie has been collaborat-
ing
with
the
Ballet
Fantastique of Eugene and
has appeared with the ballet
in performances at Eugene’s
Hult Center for the Perform-
ing Arts as well as the Oregon
Shakespeare Festival’s Green
Show in Ashland.
Jarvie’s special gift, how-
ever, is the impact he has on
audiences. After his concerts,
audience members invariably
tell him how moved they were
by his music.
Jarvie’s performances are
enhanced by his introductions
to each piece. In a warm and
relaxed manner, he shares
brief vignettes about the com-
posers, the music, and the
times, which deepen the audi-
ence’s experience.

Jarvie, visit MainlyPiano.
