SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2015 Firenze sponsors ‘Can Hunger’ concert, food drive Friday Local Food Share programs will benefit from an opportu- nity for the community to bring canned foods and enjoy an evening of live music, wine and chocolates, offered by local business owners Luis Lopez and Jody Hale of Firenze Wine and Chocolates. “Come on in, bring some canned food items and enjoy an evening of live music and try our delicious wines and chocolates,” said Hale. This Friday, Sept. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m., there will be an open mike hosted by Bill Olson, “Cowboy Bill of Oregon.” A receptacle for donated Voice Your Opinion! The goal is to gather 1,000 cans of food for Florence Food Share and Mapleton Food Share. The “Can Hunger” Concert series organizers request that canned foods meet local food share specifications. Prizes will be awarded to the top individual and church/organization, includ- ing a $50 gift certificate to the top individual gatherer and a $100 prize to the civic group or church that turns in the most canned foods. SEPTEMBER HOLIDAY MARKET ART & CRAFT SHOW 11 A Look for ‘Splash of Color’ at FEC this fall COURTESY PHOTOS Blown glass created by Marion Hall (above), along with photography by Ken McDougal (right), will be featured with other local artists at the “Splash of Color” exhibit at the Florence Events Center in September. The Florence Events Center (FEC) and the Friends of FEC Gallery Committee will share an exhibit during the months of September and October of talented local and regional artists entitled, “A Splash of Color.” The public is invited to an artists reception on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. Come meet the artists and enjoy refreshments. Among the artwork on dis- play will be the colorful blown glass work of Marion Hall, photographs by Ken McDougal, as well as art from Gene Olson, Jaroslav Lupinek, Richard Reynolds, Ronald Hilden- brand, Kate Alexander and Claudia Ignatieff. The artwork will be on dis- play at the FEC, 715 Quince St. in Florence, during the months of September and October in Gallery One. This year’s show will feature various mediums of artwork including watercolor, oil, acrylic, photography and wood turned bowls and vases. Learn about bridge protection Sept. 9 The Oregon Department of Transportation is protecting, restoring and improving the safety of the historic Siuslaw River Bridge on Highway 101 in Florence. The community is invited to an open house Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Florence City Hall, 250 Highway 101.
