‘Can Hunger’ concert series plays Sept. 4, 5
Firenze Wine & Chocolate hosts music Sept. 4
Local food share programs
will benefit from an opportuni-
ty for the community to bring
canned foods and enjoy an
evening of live music, wine
and
chocolates,
offered
by local business owners
Luis Lopez and Jody Hale
of
Firenze
Wine
and
Chocolates.
“We are excited to have
many of the talented local
musicians as well as out of
town talents come by and per-
form in our shop on Bay
Street,” said Hale. “One such
musician asked if we could
open our doors one evening so
cans of food can be collected
for the benefit of local food
banks.
“We thought it was a great
idea — so come on in, bring
some canned food items and
enjoy an evening of live music
and try our delicious wines and
chocolates!”
Friday, Sept. 4, from 6 to 9
p.m. there will be an open-mic
hosted by Bill Olson, “Cowboy
Bill of Oregon,” who has per-
formed over 300 times in the
Northwest.
A receptacle for donated
foods will be located inside
Firenze on 1297 Bay St. in
Historic Old Town until this
date.
Over 12,000 Oregonians are

Florence Area Community Coalition features SOS speakers
The
Florence
Area
Community
Coalition
(FACC) will feature speakers
from
Siuslaw
Outreach
Services (SOS) at its general
meeting on Wednesday,
Sept. 2, from 9 to 10:30
a.m. in the Bromley Room
at the Siuslaw Public Lib-
rary.
October
is
Domestic
Violence Awareness Month,
so Pam Long and Marie
Hickman, of SOS, will speak
about the domestic violence
issues and about the services
provided by SOS.
Domestic violence is not
singularly a women’s issue. It
affects men, women, and
children
of
all
ages,
races, cultural and economic
groups.
Dealing with immediate
and long-term consequences
of domestic violence demands
a wide array of actions and
services throughout the com-
munity.
SOS has crisis interven-
tions, support groups, emer-
gency shelter vouchers, cloth-
ing, supplies and more. It col-
laborates with several other
community agencies.
Come hear the presentation
and learn more about domes-
tic violence prevention and
the many lines of action avail-
able to help victims and per-
petrators.
The mission of the FACC is
“to improve the quality of life
in Western Lane County
through partnerships, net-
working, volunteerism, com-
munity involvement, educa-
tion and awareness.”
Meetings are held the first
Wednesday of each month
at the library and feature
speakers
from
various
agencies throughout the com-
munity.
Each meeting also has a
“Featured Agency” to which
attendees can contribute
monetary or materials dona-
tions.
The featured agencies
for September are the Siuslaw
and
Mapleton
School
Districts.
Participants are asked to
bring school supplies. Lists of
supplies are posted in stores
or can be found on the school
district websites.
Any and all donations are
greatly appreciated.
All are welcome to attend
the meetings and to join the
FACC.
Membership information is
available at the meetings or at
www.florenceareacc.org.
