Grant writing workshop at library Aug. 26
U.S. Coast Guard gives
Spirit of Excellence Award

Damage Controlman Third
Class (DC3) Cody Wagner the
“Sailor of the Quarter” for the
second quarter of 2015, from
March to June.
Wagner was selected by his
crew, superiors and the station
command.
The Sailor of the Quarter is
selected based on sustained
superior performance of duty
while being assigned to
Station Siuslaw River in
Florence.
The honor was presented by
the Officer in Charge, Senior
Chief Tim Tregoning, and a
recognition ceremony took
place at an all-hands muster.
Wagner, 24, is a native of
Crowley, Texas.
He enlisted in the U.S.
Coast Guard in 2010, and has
served aboard Coast Guard
Cutter Oak in Charleston,
S.C., and Station Crisfield,
Md., before attending rate
training and arriving aboard
Station Siuslaw River in
November 2014.

Coalition’s Grant Writing
Workshop in the Bromley
Room at the Siuslaw Public
Library on Wednesday, Aug.
26, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This workshop is for both
individuals and groups (for-
profit and nonprofits) who con-
tribute to a vibrant cultural life
in Lane County.

Spencer will lead the workshop
and provide guidance in writ-
ing and submitting a Cultural
Opportunity grant application
to the Lane County Cultural
Coalition for any activity that
provides, expands or stimulates
access, education, and/or
awareness to Lane County res-
idents in the areas of arts, her-
itage or humanities.
The Coalition, comprised of
12 Lane County cultural lead-
ers, accepts grant applications
once each year in October.
The workshop is co-spon-
sored by the Siuslaw Public
Library. Spencer was appoint-
ed to the Lane County Cultural
DC3 Cody Wagner
Siuslaw River. This position
includes maintaining multiple
housing units, including
remodeling and modernizing
as conditions warrant. This
hard work creates a healthy
and comfortable living space
for Coast Guard families liv-
ing onboard.

lessness are admirable, and are
in keeping with the Coast
Guard’s core values of honor,
respect and devotion to duty.
He has certainly earned and is
deserving of this honor," said
