donation from Banner Bank vice president and branch manager Dee Osborne. Banner Bank donated $1,500 to
complete the Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane County Teen Center’s new carpet fund drive. Almost $5,500
was raised for new carpeting to be installed by Goodmans Floor Covering in time for the reopening of the Teen
Center this fall. The Goodmans also donated $1,500 to start the fund earlier this spring. The balance of the
money was raised through $15-per-yard donations by community members and businesses. The Teen Center is
still in need of two 50-inch flat screen TVs with sound bars and other smaller items. For more information, call

preschool whose goal is to pro-
vide excellence in education
and opportunities for faith for-
mation in a loving, safe envi-
ronment for every child.
Based on the evidence that
shows young children learn
best through play, staff mem-
bers provide many opportuni-

discoveries and learn respect

In collaboration with fami-
lies and New Life Lutheran
Church, the preschool encour-
ages and supports children to

Preschool uses an Ausubelian
approach to learning.
The preschool teachers alter-
nate teacher-directed formal
instruction with child-directed
exploration and play.
Part of the daily program is
planned and directed by the
teacher and involves direct
instruction of concepts and
skills.
Other parts of the day are set
aside for free play and discov-
ery time.
The Ausubelian approach
provides a middle ground
between a completely child-
centered preschool program
and a completely teacher-
directed preschool program. It
provides a structured environ-
ment which is rich in stimula-
tion, interaction, discussion
and activity, while teaching
children to seek additional
information.
The preschool’s teachers are
certified through state licensing
and each have a step on the
Oregon Registry.

quilt artist was assigned a mas-
ter painter to interpret in fabric
art.
There will be three quilt
interpretations (one each from
the United States, France and
Japan) of each painter’s work.
Several of the fabric artists will
be present at this venue.
