8 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 2015 Mapleton unveils historic photos at library open house Siuslaw Public Library and the library’s Upper Siuslaw Committee are hosting a very special open house at the Mapleton Branch Library, 88151 Riverview Avenue, on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The event will feature the unveiling of 12 recently restored historic photographs of the Mapleton area. Everyone is invited to par- ticipate in the festivities that will include delicious food offerings, face painting and conversations with friends, neighbors and library repre- sentatives. The 12 photographs that will be presented to the public at the open house were select- ed from the collections of the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum and the Lane County Historical Museum. The historic photos have been carefully restored, enlarged and printed by The Archives, a local photo restoration company, and will be on semi-permanent display at the Mapleton Branch Library. A portion of the funds for the restoration and display project were provided by a generous grant from Lane County Cultural Coalition, one of 45 county- based cultural coalitions that issue local grants for the Oregon Cultural Trust. The purpose of these cultural grants is to stimulate grassroots efforts to expand arts, heritage and humanities programs in Lane County.
