6 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 2015 Communitywide worship service set for Sept. 6 Backstreet Gallery celebrates 10 years Hundreds of people are expected to gather at the local football stadium for a Communitywide Worship Service on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m. For the seventh year, the Siuslaw Valley Ministerial Association is offering this event for the community at large. The service features a great worship band with musi- cians and singers from several local churches. Three local pastors combine to preach one sermon. Communion con- cludes the service. A freewill offering will be appreciated to offset costs, with all monies, after costs, going to the local Habitat for Humanity and Florence Food Share. The football stadium is located behind Siuslaw Middle School at 2525 Oak St., in Florence. There is a service for chil- dren 4 years old to fifth grade. The children’s service takes place in the auxiliary gym at the middle school, adjacent to the football stadium. The entrance to the gym is on the south side, under the covered area. It is suggested that attendees dress to be warm, in layers, and bring a blanket or pads for sitting on the stadium benches. Backstreet Gallery, 1421 Bay St., is a cooperative gallery operated by the more than 25 artists who display their work on site. Street closures scheduled to begin in Dunes City DUNES CITY — Asphalt pavement overlay and mainte- nance work will be underway on Russell Drive during the remainder of August. Preparatory work is expect- ed to begin during the week of Aug. 17. The initial construction activities will consist of repair and replacement of designated sections on Russell Drive (entire length) followed by placement of a new asphalt concrete overlay between the limits of Rio Drive to the end. The work is necessary for our streets to be maintained properly and to insure the max- imum life possible of the exist- ing asphalt pavement. This maintenance will affect vehicular traffic and access to homes while the work is being accomplished. The selected contractor, Johnson Rock, has made it clear that for pavement improvements to work proper- ly, and to insure the city receives the maximum value from its investment, it is imper- ative that no one drive or walk on the freshly paved street sec- tion directly following its placement for a period of 4 to 6 hours. Residents and the general public will be notified through the contractor’s traffic control measures regarding when vehi- cle and pedestrian traffic will be permitted back on the street. The affected areas will be barricaded off with traffic cones until through traffic is allowed within the newly paved area. Arrangements will be made to accommodate homeowners and delivery vehicles to what- ever extent possible during the street maintenance curing peri- od. ‘American Pickers’ seeks local stories Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz and Antique Archeology will film episodes of their hit series American Pickers throughout Oregon this September.
