Hot dogs and hamburgers
hot-off-the-grill, plus home-
made pastries, will be avail-
able today, Saturday, Aug. 15,
at the Grocery Outlet parking
lot.
The event, from 11 a.m.
until 2 p.m., raises money to
help provide care for the once-
homeless cats and dogs await-
ing their forever home at the
Florence
Area
Humane
Society’s no-kill shelter.
Hamburgers cost $4, hot
dogs and Polish dogs are $3.
Customers may add cheese to
any order for 50 cents.
Drinks are $1 and include a

variety of soft drinks plus bot-
tled water.
Baked goods, homemade by
FAHS volunteers, are priced
individually, advises Sandee
Gallimore, who chairs this
event.
Inside the store, FAHS vol-
unteers will be greeting visi-
tors with adoptable cats.
Literature about the services
offered by the Humane
Society is available.
Grocery Outlet owner

On August 14th at 10 AM , the
Florence Area Humane Society (FAHS)
is opening "Th e Annex" at
4981 Hwy 101, just north of Fred Meyer.
It will be selling estate and donated furniture, appliances and other
large items too big for the FAHS Th rift Store in Old Town, but
photos of items will be there.
THE ANNEX WILL BE OPEN
on the 2nd and 4th Fridays and Saturdays
of every month from
10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
and by appointment with
Ed at 541-999-8247.
All proceeds go to benefi t the shelter animals.
Florence Mayor Joe Henry boarded the Rhody Express on Thursday, Aug. 8, for the “Ride
with a City Councilor” program. Citizens were able to ride the Rhody Express to talk to
Henry about current issues, discuss policy and ask questions.
Jazz concert benefits Habitat for Humanity tomorrow
Don’t miss the wonderful
sounds of the Pacific Jazz
Septet coming Sunday, Aug.
16, at 2 p.m. in the Florence
Events Center. This great jazz
group is hosting the concert to
benefit Florence Habitat for
Humanity.
All proceeds from the con-
cert go to Florence Habitat for
Humanity to build houses.
Habitat for Humanity was
founded in 1976 to eliminate
poverty housing in the
world.
This concert is sponsored
and directed by Robin
DeVour, who has been a sup-
porter and contributor to
Habitat for years. All origi-
nals and arrangements are by
DeVour as well.
Blindness hasn’t stopped
DeVour from achieving suc-
cess with his music.
Before retiring, he received
his doctorate in clinical psy-
chology, leading him eventu-
ally into private practice until
retiring at age 70.
Featured vocalist Denise
Dee started singing in folk
and rock bands in the late
1970s through 1990.
The opportunity to work
with a 1940s Big Band came
in 1990; this resurfaced a
need to do the music of the
1930s and 1940s, as her
mother and aunt had been Big
Band singers.
She met Michael De’ak and
they formed the Jazz Duo “On
the Wing” from 1992 to 2007,
performing in Southern
California.
Denise moved to Florence
in 2008 and has been in per-
formances with the Florence
Community Chorus, Oregon
Coast Chamber Orchestra and
numerous fares with local
musicians in Florence.
The Pacific Jazz Septet
group is made up of DeVour
on keyboard, Mike Swain on
drums, BRSK on bass, Ed
Petry on guitar, Lou Invernon
on alto saxophone, Virgil
Walkely as trombonist and
vocalist
and
Chris
Rowbothem on trumpet.
Tickets are free, but a $10
donation per ticket for
Habitat for Humanity would
be appreciated.
