BIRTH
OBITUARIES
WILHELMI—Muriel L.
Wilhelmi, 90, of Florence,
died at home
July
27,
2015.
She had
many talents,
including as
an artist. She
was
best
known for
her
sea-
Muriel
scapes.
Wilhelmi
She and
husband, Eugene “Jerry”
Wilhelmi, enjoyed dancing into
their late 80s.
Muriel is survived by her
husband, their four children,
grandkids and great-grandkids,
and her brother, William
Stahnke.
She always will be missed
by her family and friends.
Burns’s Riverside Chapel
Florence Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
BOYE—Mary Viola Boye,
90, of Lincoln City, formerly of
Reedsport, passed peacefully
Friday, July 24, 2015, at
Regency Florence Rehabilit-
ation Center, from natural
causes.
She was born March 21,
1925, to Frankie L. and
Elizabeth E. Boye, both
deceased, at their then-home-
stead on Otter Slough (near
Reedsport, Ore.).
Before retirement in the late
1990s, Mary had lived and
worked for
six to eight
months
each year at
Redden Net
Co.
in
Cordova,
Alaska, for
more than
30 years,
Mary Boye
hanging
and mending nets for commer-
cial fisherman.
She had learned this nearly-
lost skill from her father at an
early age and generously
shared and taught several
Cordova natives the art before
retiring. It was arduous work
and she put in many long and
late hours, still finding time to
drive cab, tend bar and clean
rooms at the Cordova House
Hotel and Bar.
She had become a very inde-
pendent lady and was pleased,
even proud, to have been called
a “tough old bird” or broad!
In her “free time,” she
always kept her hands busy and
just couldn’t leave thread
alone. She crocheted doilies,
potholders, purses, fine table-
cloths and bedspreads, and well
over 200 afghans, most
of which she happily gave
away.
Mary was also a long-time
member of the Eagles Lodge in
Reedsport.
During her 70s and 80s,
Mary enjoyed traveling and
took several cruises, visited
Europe with relatives, and at
another time did a round-the-
world trip by herself!
She especially enjoyed New
Zealand and Australia, and had
most recently, prior to her fall,
enjoyed reminiscing and look-
ing at those photos.
Earlier in her life, Mary had
pulled lumber on the “green
chain” in Gardiner, and worked
several places in Reedsport,
which included picking crab at
Point Adams Packing Co., sell-
ing tickets and refreshments at
the old movie theater, operat-
ing the shirt-ironing mangle at
the old dry cleaners and was
bookkeeper for several years at
Unigas.
In addition to her parents,
Mary was preceded in death by
five brothers: Albert, Wilson,
Howard, Clarence and Everett
Boye; as well as her two former
husbands, David R. Morgan
and A. LeRoy Chenoweth, both
of Reedsport.
Mary is survived by her
daughters: Bee Boye (a.k.a.
Bernice Morgan) of Lincoln
City, Nancy A. Lee (nee Nancy
Morgan) of Reedsport; three
grandsons, two great-grand-
daughters and many dear and
cherished close friends and rel-
atives.
Mary had moved to Lincoln
City in December 2008 to live
with her daughter Bee until
July 2014, when she moved to
Lakeview Senior Living, also
in Lincoln City, until she fell
and broke a hip July 2.
She had hip replacement sur-
gery, and then was transferred
to Florence, on July 7, for
rehab.
At her request, there will be
no formal services.
A celebration of life is
planned for Saturday, Aug. 15,
from 1 to 3 p.m., at the
Reedsport Eagles Lodge, 510
Greenwood Ave.
The family requests no flow-
ers or donations, but welcomes
oral or written memories to
share at the celebration.
Burns’s Riverside Chapel
Florence Funeral Home is in
charge of all arrangements.
