of those inducted into Siuslaw’s
hallowed halls, all of whom cred-
ited the combination of stellar
coaching with the love and sup-
port of family on and off the field
for helping them reach their goals
— in high school and beyond.
When speaking of 2015
inductee Susan Emery (1987),
father Cliff Emery said her first
hurdle was a baby gate.
“She just kept clearing hurdles
on the track and in her life from
there,” Emery said of his daugh-
ter, who was a three-sport stand-
out in volleyball, basketball and
track and field.
“I don’t think we can ever give
coaches enough credit for the
impact they have on our lives,”
said inductee and 1988 graduate
Sherri Stapleton — affectionately
known as “Rockin’ Bob” by
classmates. “They taught us early
on not to settle for anything less
than our best.”
Collin Cram (2004), First-
Team All-State wide receiver,
previous school record holder in
the high hurdles and now a track
coach at Oregon State University,
underscored Stapleton’s message,
eloquently stating how the sup-
port of coaches and family
“fueled an insatiable thirst for
wanting to learn more and pursue
my goals.”
