Registration begins for annual book fest
New Location
If you’ve written or pub-
lished a book — not an ebook
—but a book with pages that
you have to turn, then you are
eligible to participate in the
annual Florence Festival of
Books (FFOB), which will be
held at the Florence Events
Center on Sept. 26, from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m.
Applications for a table are
now available online at www.
florencefestivalofbooks.org, or
stop by the Florence Events
Center and fill out an applica-
tion.
There is a limit on how many
applications will be accepted,
and there are only about 15
tables left. So sign up now. The
Florence Festival of Books is
one of the most popular book
fairs in the state.
Although the deadline to
sign up is Sept. 1, the limit will
be reached by the end of this
month. That was the case last
year and applications are com-
ing in even faster this year.
On Sept. 25, the day before
the book fair, there will be
three events that are also a part
of the FFOB. A Publisher's
Panel is tentatively scheduled
for 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Then from 6 to 6:45 p.m.
there will be a meet and greet
for FFOB participants.

his projects book for children at last year’s Festival of Books.
Besides being an opportuni-
ty to meet the other participat-
ing authors, it is also an oppor-
tunity to meet the Keynote
Speaker, Jane Kirkpatrick, pop-
ular Northwest author of his-
torical fiction. She will be
speaking at 7 p.m. ($8 a head or
$10 at the door).
The other two events have
no fee.
The Publishers Panel and
Keynote Speaker are open to
the public.
The meet and greet is only
for those participating in the
book fair on Saturday and any
family members accompanying
them.

The remaining board mem-
bers and current Library
Director Meg Spencer all
extended their thanks to
Forsberg for his years of serv-
ice to the library district and
the community.
The board will interview
applicants and appoint a
replacement for the unexpired
term of Forsberg at a regular
meeting on Wednesday, Aug.
19.
The person who is selected
by the board as a replacement
will be eligible to run for
election in May 2017, at the
end of Forsberg’s current
term.
The library board is com-
posed of five residents of the
district who are elected to
four-year terms.
In addition to residing in
the Siuslaw Public Library
District, members must be
qualified electors.
The responsibilities of the
board of directors include set-
ting library policies, approv-
ing the annual budget and hir-
ing and supervising the
Library Director.
All board members serve
without remuneration.
Meetings are held on a
monthly basis with longer
planning sessions scheduled
as needed.
As the board embarks on a
new strategic plan for the
library district this year,
board members will be
expected to attend additional
meetings and planning ses-
sions as part of the process.
Individuals who would be
interested in serving on the
library board must submit a
completed application and
inventory form to Spencer by
4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 7.
Application packets are
available in both locations of
the Siuslaw Public Library
and online at the library’s
website.
