2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, JULY 18, 2015 OBITUARY LYNCH—Edith Lynch, 97, of Florence, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2015. She was born April 22, 1918, in Italy and migrated to the United States with her family through Edith Lynch Ellis Island when she was 9 years old. Edith spent many years in Trinidad and the Denver, Colo., area. She worked at var- ious secretarial positions, and loved cooking and reading. “Edie,” as friends knew her, had one daughter who passed away in 2001. She and her husband, Edward Lynch, lived for a while in Virginia until his death. Edward is buried in the Arlington National Cemetery. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marie Aquino; her brother, Gabriel (a recipient of the Purple Heart; killed in action in 1945); and a sister, Helen. Edith moved to Florence in 2007 to be near her sister and brother-in-law, Joann and Lloyd Carey. They passed away in 2011 and 2013, respectively. During the two years Edith had been a resident at Elderberry Square, she made many friends. She loved the wonderful caregivers there, and especially her hospice friends. Hailey Durgan recently signed the agreement to part- ner with Florence Habitat for Humanity in the construction and mortgage for a new home for herself and 5-year-old son, Gunner.
