calls to her loved ones on a
regular basis just to let them
know she loved them.
She was a light to her fami-
ly, and now they are all shim-
mers of that light.
Joan was preceded in death
by
her
mother,
Faye
O’Connell; a sister, Bonnie
Ritchie, and a son, Woody
Bray II.
She is survived by her hus-
band, Bill Mason; a sister,
Shirley Donatoni; her daugh-
ters: Bonnie, Lynne, Lori,
Kathleen, Mary, Debra and
Larissa; her sons: Patrick Bray,
John Bray and Bobby Mason;
and her 58 grandchildren.
A funeral service for Joan
will be held Monday, July 13,
at 1 p.m., at Burns’s Riverside
Chapel Florence Funeral
Home.
LANDWEHR —Gordon
Landwehr, 89, of Florence,
passed away
July 6, 2015.
Gordon
and his fam-
ily
have
lived
on
Siltcoos
Lake
for
approxi-
mately 160
Gordon
years; his
Landwehr
house was
once the post office.
He used to ferry across the
river for groceries and goods.
Gordon went to a one-room
school in West Lake. He joined
the Marines at the age of 18,
serving in Okinawa where
3,000 were killed. While serv-
ing his country, he was wound-
ed with 27 pieces of shrapnel
in his legs and buttocks. He
received the Purple Heart.
He was was a timber faller,
working in the woods for
International Paper for years.
He had a ranch up the North
Fork with a river running
through it, where he raised
beef and a garden, fished,
smoked jerky, clammed and
crabbed.
He also had a house and
land at North Beach and was
one of the camp houses in
Booth; they towed across the
lake on logs and pulled on the
hill with a D8 cat.
Gordon was married to his
first wife for more than 50
years. They owned Mode O’
Day in town.
Gordon had one daughter,
Jerlyn; two granddaughters
and six great-grandchildren:
Brook, Kay, Kaitlyn, Rylie,
Emily, Logan, Dillon and
Jordon.
After his wife’s death, he
married Adeline Webb and
they were married nine years.
Graveside services will be
held July 14, at 11 a.m., at
Pacific Sunset Cemetery.

Lewis Getchell, 87, of
Florence, passed away July 6,
2015.

Shindig supports local garden
Come to Homegrown Pub,
294 Laurel St., on Monday, July
13, at 5 p.m., and support local
farms and the Siuslaw
Elementary School garden.
The “Support Local Summer
Shindig” is hosted by Real
Food Co-op and Homegrown
Public House.
There will be appetizers and
dinner, including grilled local
lamb, salmon and vegetables
with fresh berries for dessert.
A dessert auction fundraiser
will support the school garden.
Tickets are $25 and are avail-
able at Real Food Co-op and
Homegrown Pub.
CORVALLIS — Names of

Scholastic Honor Roll Spring
term have been announced by
Oregon State University.
A total of 982 students
earned a straight-A (4.0).
Another 3,571 earned a B-
plus (3.5) or better to make
the listing.

He enjoyed many years of
traveling to Alaska, where he
built a cabin.
He is survived by his wife,

away peace-
fully at her
home with
family
by
her side on
Sunday, July
5, 2015, just
before sun-
rise.
Joan was
Joan Mason
born Sept. 2,
1934, in Bard, Calif., to Faye
Bivens and Zelma Ritchie.
She was blessed with a fun-
loving spirit, valued hard
work, good manners and
excelled in everything she put
her mind to.
Joan married Woody Bray in
1953, and together they raised
nine children.
In 1971, Joan met Bill
Mason while working as a
hostess at a Sizzler restaurant.
For Bill, it was love at first
sight. They married on Oct. 2,
1973, and spent the next 42
years on a honeymoon.
Joan and Bill moved to
Klamath Falls, Ore., in 1980
and enjoyed many years teach-
ing together as firearm safety
and shooting instructors.
Joan shared her love for life
and spiritual beliefs with all
who needed it.
She will forever be remem-
bered as a humble woman who
wanted to help others, and all
who knew her would agree
that she was “an original”.
Family was her top priority.
She never missed an opportu-
nity to share in family celebra-
