So Cool at the Coast is both local and global. Over the past six years, the Florence Rotary Club has contributed close to $25,000 to Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign. Because of this worldwide effort, polio has been wiped out in all but three countries: Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. As this effort continues, it won’t be long until polio is gone from the planet for good. For more information or to register for the tournament, call 541-997-3232 or visit www. coolatthecoast.com. And how would the band every make it through all that marching without the promise of Rotary hot dogs waiting at the end of the line? The sixth annual tournament tees off Saturday, Aug. 1, at Ocean Dunes Golf Links. At 10 a.m., 136 golfers will be ready to swing into action to benefit Rotary projects in Florence and worldwide. For some of Florence’s smaller citizens, the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Miller Park is something they anticipate all year. Though it’s over in about 30 seconds, rain or shine it’s their version of “Happy Easter.” Educational activities are always high on the list of Rotary projects, and funds raised by Cool at the Coast enable the club to create back- packs that send children back to school in style.
