NORTH COAST
LAKES:
Lost Lake received some
surplus trout last week.
Most other district lakes
were stocked the first week
of June. Trout fishing
should be fair to good. Due
to warm conditions, con-
centrate on early morning
hours when fish are likely
to be the most active.
Warm water fishing is
fair to good. Coffenbury,
Cullaby, Sunset, Lytle,
Cape Meares, and Town
lakes, and Vernonia Pond
all offer opportunity for
largemouth bass. Weed
growth and water quality
may be a problem in some
areas.
The latest trout stocking
schedule.
The Boys and Girls Club
of Western Lane County will
be holding its 2015-16 sports
season kick-off meeting July
22, at 6 p.m., at the Teen
Center, 1601 15th St.
The purpose of the meet-
ing will be to plan for the
upcoming sports seasons,
including staffing, volunteers
and potential fundraising
needs.
Volunteer coaches are
needed for tackle football,
flag football, fall soccer,
cheer squad, volleyball, bas-
ketball, spring soccer and
softball.
In addition, referees will
be needed for all activities.
Corporate and individual
team sponsors also are being
sought.
Anyone interested in join-
ing the Boys and Girls Club
sports committee is encour-
aged to attend the meeting.

The Three Rivers Sandblasters
opened the five-day Mickey Merriam
Tourney in Seattle with a loss to the
EnFuego Elite, but the Florence Triple-
A Legion Baseball team gained
momentum for the rest of the tourney
en route to the championship game.
Three Rivers outbatted its next three
opponents, beginning with a 7-3 run
against the Seattle Braves. Taking to
the diamond on day three, Florence
narrowly defeated the EnFuego
Futures in a hard-fought 6-5 win that
advanced them to the semi-finals
against the Queen City Reds.
In that match-up, the ’Blasters made
quick work of the Reds, dominating
them for an 8-0 win — and a ticket to
the championship against the only
team to beat them in the tournament:
the Enfuego Elite.
Unfortunatley for the Sandblasters,
the result was the same, finishing sec-
ond in the tournament after being
blanked, 12-0.
The Sandblasters returned to the
diamond yesterday in American
Legion Zone Three action, taking on
the Post 20 Dirtbags at Willamette
University (after press deadlines).
Today, the ’Blasters will host the
Dirtbags at Siuslaw High School for a
doubleheader at 1 and 4 p.m.
The openers will be a nine-inning
game, followed by a seven-inning out-
ting for the nightcap.

ery is slow to fair. Fishing
during the early mornings
or in the larger tributaries
is the most productive.

low and warm for this time

leads to increased
fishing opportunities,
catches last week
NEWPORT — After fishing last
weekend nearly exhausted the avail-
able spring quota, the spring all-depth
Pacific halibut fishery on Oregon’s
central coast is closed until Aug. 7.
“Last weekend there was just
enough good weather and good fish-
ing to push us to within 1,500 pounds
of the spring all-depth quota,” said
Lynn Mattes, ODFW’s project leader
for halibut. “That’s not enough quota
to open any additional days this
spring, but that remaining quota will
be added to the summer season that
opens in August.”
The spring all-depth Pacific halibut
fishery for the central coast subarea
(from Cape Falcon south to Humbug
Mountain) was open 12 days over four
different periods, resulting in the har-
vest of approximately 109,163 pounds
of Pacific halibut.
The summer all-depth fishery will
open Aug. 7 with a quota of approxi-
mately 45,000 pounds.
The summer season for the central
coast all-depth fishery is scheduled to
be open every other Friday and
Saturday until the all-depth quota is
taken or Oct. 31, whichever is earlier.
Fishing for halibut in the Central
Coast Subarea is still allowed seven
days per week inside the 40-fathom
line until the quota is reached or Oct.
31.
On the north coast (the Columbia
River Subarea; from Leadbetter Point,
Wash., to Cape Falcon), nearshore hal-
ibut fishing is open seven days a week
until the quota is taken or Sept. 30.
On the south coast (the Southern
Oregon Subarea; from Humbug
Mountain to the OR/CA Border) the
halibut fishery is open seven days per
week until the quota is reached or Oct.
