Real Food Co-op and Homegrown Public House are hosting another “Support Local Summer Shindig” din- ner, celebrating local farms from within 60 miles. Join in Monday, July 13, at 5 p.m. for light appetizers. A family-style dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The menu will include locally raised lamb, locally caught salmon, veggie kabobs — all cooked on the grill. There will also be wild rice and chanterelle pilaf, with the wild rice grown in Oregon. For dessert, there will be fresh seasonal berries. The veggie kabobs will be made of vegetables and fruits that are in season from local farms, such as Greenfields, Whiskey Creek Organics, Dancing Star Farm, Wintergreen, and Marshview Farm. At every Support Local din- ner, there is a fundraiser to support the local school gar- den. The dinner will have a dessert auction with at least one ingredient that has been grown locally. The school garden is at Siuslaw Elementary School, where the garden holds 18 beds and growing. The goal is to have a green- house for year-round instruc- tion and food production. The school garden strives to not only educate kids about grow- ing food but also to produce food for a new self-operating school cafeteria. The project is seeking vol- unteers. Come to Homegrown Pub at 294 Laurel St. on July 13 and support local farms and the school garden. Tickets are $25 and are available at Real Food Co-op and Homegrown Pub. Real Food Co-op is open to the public Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Homegrown Pub is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner. Summer to sizzle with flamenco at FEC July 10 Seattle-based flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes brings her latest show, El Sol de Verano (“Summer Sun”) to The Florence Events Center on m Friday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m. Spanish flamenco encom- passes the full spectrum of human emotion in its three key elements: Song, guitar and it’s signature percussive instru- ment: dance. Fuentes will be joined by one of southern Spain’s most promising singing prodigies, Jose Manuel Perez. Perez acquired a deep under- standing of el cante flamenco (Flamenco singing) observing master artists in flamenco clubs of his hometown of Seville. Though only 22 years of age, the Latin crooner has already performed with a long list of today’s most prominent fla- menco artists, including Paloma Fantova, Maria Juncal and Moi de Moron. The performance will be his first public appearance in Florence. Fuentes and Perez will be joined by guitarist Bobby de Sofia. Originally from Bulgaria, Sofia discovered flamenco while in Los Angeles and con- tinued his studies in Andalusia with artists such as Pedro Viscomi and Paco Arroyo. He currently performs regu- larly at the various flamenco clubs in the Los Angeles area. Born in Seattle to parents of Puerto Rican and Irish ances- try, Fuentes began her studies in Seattle and continued in Spain with dancers such as Belen Maya and Cristobal Reyes. She currently tours throughout the western United States and has independently produced over 250 presenta- tions and workshops featuring internationally recognized fla- menco singers. Don’t miss this chance to experience the enchantment of flamenco in an intimate set- ting. Tickets are $23, with VIP seating available for $35. Student tickets are $15, with youth tickets avail- able for $8 at www.brown papertickets.com. Stocks. Bonds. CDs. IRAs. Mutual funds.
