Noted ceramic artist Kris
DeNoyer is to be honored at a
reception on July 11, from 3 to
5 p.m., at Backstreet Gallery,
1421 Bay St., and will be fea-
tured all month at the gallery.
In 2000, DeNoyer made her
first numbered piece. Each of
her 2,300 ceramic creations by
are one-of-a-kind and num-
bered. They range from the
sophisticated raku, wheel-
thrown, sculptures to the joyful
whimsical hand built “critters”
and from the tiny to the sub-
stantial.
In her menagerie of crea-
tures you will find a vibrant
collection of animated starfish,
pelicans, fish, elephants, flying
pigs, frogs and bunnies.
“They make me laugh,”
DeNoyer said of her creations.
All of these individual critters
have a special name in addition
to their number.
Always interested in art, she
once thought sketching to be
her forte. After taking classes
