Shorewood
Retirement
Residences is featuring local
artist Jan Landrum as the June
Artist of the Month.
Her watercolor paintings
will be on display in the
Shorewood dining room and
hallways.
All her paintings are for
sale.
Her paintings feature ani-
mals, flowers and portraits.
Landrum will be at
Shorewood, 1451 Spruce St.,
for a meet the artist reception
Friday, June 26, at 10 a.m.,
when she will answer ques-
tions about herself and her art.
Schools report positive impact from Food
Backpacks for Kids program

Food Backpack for Kids
(FB4K) is nearing the end of
its third year feeding children
at risk for weekend hunger in
the Siuslaw and Mapleton
School Districts. Many of the
program’s partners, volunteers
and donors in Florence and
Mapleton
attended
the
FB4K
Appreciation
Luncheon on April 21.
Marilyn Barba, FB4K pro-
gram leader, reported a major
change this year in the pro-
gram’s marketing structure
that now purchases all week-
end food for 73 children (60
in Siuslaw School District and
13 in Mapleton School
District), from local business-
es.

spoke to the variety of bene-
fits the program provides for

YACHATS — The Yachats
Arts Guild will host its annual
summer show July 2 through
July 5 at The Commons, locat-
ed at W. Fourth St. and
Highway 101 in Yachats.
The guild welcomes new
members Kathy Whitson,
Eileen Lighthawk, Lee Haynes,
Mark Adcock and Jane
McCarthy.
These new guild members,
as well as original participating
artists Claire Good, Carol
Summers and Barry Campbell,
are just a few of the artists who
will be featured in this sum-
mer’s show.
The show will feature vari-
ous mediums of artwork
including watercolor, oil,
acrylic, photography and
wood-turned bowls and vases.
Original paintings as well as
prints and note cards will be
available for purchase.

Deadline for WLCF non-high
school scholarships June 30
Are you a parent of a stu-
dent who needs money to fin-
ish their degree? Are you a stu-
dent who had to go back to
work to continue college or
trade school?
Are you someone who
never went to college but has
been thinking of furthering

ship money to give to qualified
applicants.
Western Lane Community
Foundation has announced
five new $1,000 post- second-
ary school scholarships.
These scholarships are
designed for students who use
permanent home addresses
within west Lane County and
have already been attending
college, trade school or who
want to enter higher education
for the first time.
Applicants must already
hold a diploma from high
school,
including
home
school, or achieved their GED.
Application deadline for
these scholarships is Tuesday,
June 30.
Scholarships are available
for traditional four-year uni-
versities, colleges, community
colleges and approved trade
schools.
Eligible students may apply
for these scholarships through
June 30; the scholarship com-
mittee will select awardees no
later than July 15 of each year.
