Fact: James Buchanan was a minister to
Russia from 1832-1834. He also served as
Secretary of State from 1845-1849 under
Polk. In addition, Polk was our Minister to
England from 1853-1856.

This Flag became the Official United
States Flag on July 4th, 1859. A star was
added for the admission of Oregon
(February 14, 1859) and was to last for 2
years. The two Presidents to serve under
this flag were James Buchanan (1857-
1861) and Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865)
Fact: Lincoln was the first President to
die by assassination. The contents of his
pockets on the night of his assassination
weren’t revealed until February 12, 1976.
