The 28-Star Flag: This Flag became the
Official United States Flag on
July 4th, 1846. A star was added for
the admission of Texas (December 29th,
1845) and was to last for only
1 year. The only President to serve
under this flag was James Polk (1845-
1849).

the admission of Iowa (December 28th,
1846) and was to last for only 1
year. The only President to serve
under this flag was James Polk (1845-
1849).
Answer 1: Robert Peary, who left pieces of the flag scattered at the North Pole.
Fact: James Polk’s wife, Sarah was a
devoted Presbyterian. She banned danc-
ing, card-playing and alcoholic beverages
in the white house. While Polk was in
office, gas lights were installed in the
White House.
