8th Official U.S. Flag
July 4, 1837
The 26-Star Flag: This Flag became the
Official United States Flag on
July 4th, 1837. A star was added for
the admission of Michigan (January
26th,1837) and was to last for 8
years. The four Presidents to serve
under this flag were; Martin Van Buren
(1837-1841), William Henry
Harrison (1841), John Tyler (1841-1845),
and James Polk (1845-1849).
Fact: William Henry Harrison was the
only president who studied to become a
doctor.
A living symbol of our nation’s law, the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of
Rights.

the United States of America, and to
the Republic for which it stands, one
Nation under God, indivisible, with
liberty and justice for all.”

This Flag became the Official United
States Flag on July 4th, 1845. A
star was added for
the admission of Florida and was to last
for only 1 year. The only
President to serve under this flag was
James Polk (1845-1849).
Fact: James Polk survived a gallstone
operation at the age of 17 without anes-
thesia or antiseptics. Practices were not
used at that time.
Standing guard over our nation’s schools, the seedbed of good citizenship and true patri-
