Members will be washing cars for donations Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Oregon Pacific Bank, Highway 101 and 13th Street. This event is weather per- mitting. The church is raising camp money through several fundraisers and a grant from Western Lane Community Foundation. LCC Scholarship Night June 11 Lane Community College Scholarship Night will be held tonight, June 11, at 6 p.m., at the Siuslaw Valley Fire and res- cue station, 2625 Highway 101. The event will be attended by local College Advisory Board members, the LCC Florence Center director, Russ Pierson, vice-president MJ Kuhar, LCC Foundation director Wendy Jett, LCC Board of Education member for Western Lane County Sharon Stiles and LCC president Mary Spilde. The crash occurred at mile- post 197, south of Florence, around 2 p.m. Oregon State Police, Florence Police Department and Oregon Department of Transportation also responded. When responders arrived, they found two mid-sized cars blocking the south bound lane. There was significant frontal driver side impact to both vehi- cles. There were a total of three people involved in the crash. One driver was entrapped and it took approximately 12 minutes to extricate the person from the vehicle. That driver was flown by a REACH air ambulance heli- copter to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield with serious injuries. The other two patients were taken to PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center in Florence with moderate injuries. SVFR responded with two engines, one rescue vehicle and four support vehicles, with 11 firefighters. Western Lane Ambulance District responded with two medic units and five para- medics. Griffes earns Eagle Scout rank t or p p u s I Jordan Cove & 7KH3DFLÀF Connector Pipeline Jonathan Griffes earned his Eagle Scout rank on April 16, by passing his Eagle Board of Review, the final requirement for the rank. This Friday, June 12, he will receive rank insignias and recognitions at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Griffes, son of Rob and Annette Griffes, began his scouting career in third grade, as a Bear Cub in Cub Scout Pack 777. He completed Bear, Webelos and earned his Arrow of Light before crossing over to Boy Scout Troop 777. Over seven years in the troop, he accomplished all ranks, from Scout to Eagle, and earned 22 merit badges. Griffes served the troop as scribe, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol WEDNESDAY THURSDAY Jonathan Griffes leader, participated in numer- ous service projects and planned and led his Eagle Scout project. For his Eagle Scout project, Griffes worked with Honeyman State Park to restore a trail to the dunes that had been severely damaged by erosion. Griffes planned the project and gained the park’s approval for the project. He then led 17 volunteers, including scouts, parents and friends, in building log retain- ing walls, filling in the erosion damage with sand, and plant- ing native plants to return the trail to a usable state. Griffes is a member of Florence Evangelical Church, and recently graduated with distinction from Siuslaw High School, where he served as senior class president. His achievement will be rec- ognized in an Eagle Scout Court of Honor this Friday, June 12, beginning at 7 p.m., at Florence Evangelical Church. Anyone interested in the Court of Honor is welcome.
