The second annual Bark for
Life of Florence will be held at
Miller Park from 11 a.m. to 3
p.m. Saturday, June 13.
The American Cancer
Society’s canine-themed event
raises awareness and money in
the fight against all cancers.
The Bark for Life will be a
fun day that will include con-
tests and games such as barn-
yard agility, nose games and a
parade. There will also be tro-
phies for “Best Dressed Dog”
“Biggest Dog,” Smallest Dog,”
“Cutest Dog” and a special
demonstration of dog tricks by
the Tutrax Pak.
Musical entertainment will
be provided by DJ “Magic
Man.”
There will be raffles every
15 minutes, a “Minute to Win
It” every 30 minutes for more
prizes, and vendors, informa-
tion booths, demonstrations
and more.

day of the event. The cost is
$10 per dog and $5 for each
additional dog. Registration
includes a commemorative
bandana, a poop bag and a
“pawsport.”

Secret Garden Tour to benefit
Newport Homeless Family Shelter
WALDPORT—The 12th
annual Secret Garden Tour
sponsored by the Samaritan
House Homeless Family
Shelter in Newport is set for
Sunday, June 28, from noon to
5 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and include
visits to the gardens plus light
snacks and wine. Participants
are encouraged to bring their
own water.
Tour participants will go on
a self-guided adventure to sev-
eral gardens in Makai and
Waldport on the central
Oregon coast.
This year’s gardens include
a garden with a unique view of
the Alsea Bay and Bridge, as
well as a lovely terraced rose
garden. Other gardens high-
light unusual features like a
fire pit sitting area, a green-
house
with
Carnivorous
Pitcher plants, and spectacular
garden art.
This special event provides
an opportunity to see lovely
gardens that normally are
enjoyed only by the owners
and their friends and family.
From the casual weekend
gardener to the serious hobby-
ist, all gardeners can be
inspired by what they see.
Money raised from this
event will benefit the
Samaritan House Homeless
Family Shelter, the only home-
less family shelter on the cen-
tral Oregon coast between
Tillamook and Coos Bay.
Its mission is to shelter, edu-
cate, and guide homeless fami-
lies with children towards
independent living.
