Fishing
from 1B
The rainbow trout stocking
program is in full swing and
most water bodies have been
stocked recently or will be
soon again. Most areas will be
stocked multiple times until
early June. Be sure to check
out the 2015 trout stocking
schedule for the most up to
date information.
SIUSLAW RIVER: Steelhead
The river, above tidewater,
is closed to all fishing until
May 23 when cutthroat trout
season opens.
ALSEA RIVER: Steelhead
The river is reopened with
the cutthroat trout season May
23.
SALMON RIVER:
The river opened to fishing
May 23 for cutthroat trout.
SILETZ RIVER: Steelhead
Steelhead fishing is slow but
should continue to improve on
a weekly basis. The winter
steelhead run is over with only
a few post spawn fish remain-
ing.
The summer steelhead run is
just getting started with initial
signs indicating a decent early
run compared to most years.
Typical steelhead tactics
apply such as side drifting,
bobber and jig / bait, or casting
spoons or spinners.
TENMILE BASIN: Trout,
largemouth bass, yellow perch
Trout fishing in the streams
of the Tenmile Basin openned
May 23.
Tenmile Lakes is open all
year for trout and anglers have
been catching trout trolling
wedding ring spinners tipped
with a worm in the main part
of Tenmile Lakes. Trolling for
trout in the upper arms of the
lakes has been a little slower.
Bass anglers have been
catching several largemouth
bass in Tenmile Lakes. Bass
can be found this time of the
year in shallow water near
structure like logs or weed
lines.
WILSON RIVER: Steelhead,
Chinook
Summer steelhead fishing
should be slow to fair. Fish
will be holding in deeper holes
as flows are low. Use lighter
gear in the clear water. Spring
Chinook fishing is slow but
should improve over the next
few weeks. Concentrate on
deeper holes in the lower river.
YAQUINA RIVER: Steelhead
The river reopen to cutthrow
fishing May 23.
COOS RIVER BASIN:
Dungeness crab, bay clams,
rockfish, trout
Trout season in Coos Basin
rivers and streams openned
May 23.
Anglers have been catching
a few rockfish inside lower
Coos Bay around the jetties.
The best fishing has been
around the slack tides. The
marine fish daily bag limit
(which includes fishing in
estuaries) is seven fish and a
separate daily limit for lingcod
(two). Anglers will be able to
keep only three blue rockfish
and one canary rockfish as part
of their daily limit and there
will be no harvest of China,
quillback or copper rockfish.
The South Umpqua is
closed to all fishing
WINCHESTER BAY:
Bottomfish, perch
Fishing for bottomfish in the
Triangle and South jetty has
been successful. It was report-
ed that striped perch were
caught along the jetty and they
were of good size. Crabbing
has picking up with some lim-
its reported..
PACIFIC OCEAN AND
BEACHES: Bottomfish,
salmon, Dungeness crab, surf
perch
The ocean is open for har-
vest of Dungeness crab.
Anglers continue to catch a
few surf perch from the beach-
es near Winchester, Bandon
and Coos Bay. The best fishing
is usually on the incoming
tide. Sand shrimp is one of the
UMPQUA RIVER, SOUTH:
best baits to use when fish-
ing for surf perch.
The season is open for all
salmon except coho salmon,
with a bag limit of two salmon
per day, and a minimum size
for Chinook salmon at 24
inches or larger. Fishing has
ENS GOLF
been difficult due to rough
seas and there are few reports
of fish being caught, but fish-
ing should improve with con-

Rockfish and lingcod catch-
es were good last week when
anglers could get out. Fishers
out of Newport continue to
report abundant squid, both
visible in the water and in the
stomachs of their rockfish;
rockfish are also reportedly
feeding on Velella velella, also
known as By-The-Wind-Sailor
jellyfish, which are easily rec-
ognizable by their bright blue
“sail.”
Cabezon fishing is closed
through June 30.
C LAMMING : Razor clam-
ming remain closed from the
Oregon/California border north
to the south jetty of the
Siuslaw River in Florence due
to elevated levels of domoic
acid.
The closure includes razor
clams on all beaches, rocks,
jetties, and at the entrance to
bays in this section of the
Oregon Coast.
Opportunities to collect
razor clams are still available
along Oregon beaches north of
the Siuslaw River.
• Recreational harvesting of
mussels is closed from
Cascade Head (north of
Lincoln City) to the north jetty
of the Rogue River (at Gold
Beach) due to elevated levels
of Paralytic Shellfish Toxin.
The ODA’s toll free shell-
fish safety hotline is 1-800-
448-2474.
