SOLVE leaders needed for Beach Cleanup
SOLVE is accepting applications
from volunteers to lead community
projects in support of the annual Beach
Riverside Cleanup. Projects will take
place on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10
a.m. to 1 p.m., and will engage volun-
teers in environmental restoration and
cleanup efforts across Oregon.
The deadline for project applications
is Friday, June 26.
As part of the Beach Riverside
Cleanup, teachers are encouraged to
involve their students in service-learn-
ing activities any time between Sept.
12 and and 27.
SOLVE also is seeking volunteers to
serve as Beach Captains at several
established beach cleanup sites along
the Oregon coast on the day of the
event.
Beach Captains help check in volun-
teers, hand out supplies and give a safe-
ty talk.
Contact SOLVE directly if you are
interested in this opportunity.
In celebration of the International
Coastal Cleanup and National Public
Lands Day, the SOLVE Beach
E NTER
Riverside
Cleanup
supports
Oregonians who help take care of
parks, beaches, waterways and neigh-
borhoods by picking up trash, pulling
invasive plants, planting native trees
and shrubs, and helping with other
watershed enhancement activities.
Last year, more than 5,100 volun-
teers came out to over 110 project sites
across the state to remove 34 tons of lit-
ter and marine debris, plant 286 trees
and shrubs, and clear 6 acres of inva-
sive plants.
Volunteer leaders receive assistance
for their local SOLVE projects, includ-
ing project planning support and train-
ing, event flyers and pre-event publici-
ty, online volunteer registration and
cleanup project supplies.
SOLVE also has a limited number of
small grants of up to $100 for reim-
bursement of qualifying project
expenses.
Interested leaders can apply online at
solveoregon.org.

have more than 200
fishing rods available
to borrow that day and
ODFW supplies power

Volunteers
will
assist on the shoreline
as families line the banks to try to
catch some of the thousands of rain-
bow trout that have been planted into
Cleawox Lake for the event.
Others will staff a fish cleaning sta-
tion, so that the catch can be taken
home, ready to cook.
There will be a free hot dog barbe-
cue, fish print T-shirt making and a
practice casting station.
Last year, more than 200 young
anglers participated in the day’s activ-
