We’d changed zip codes and they had a hard time tracking us down. This really confirmed a family feeling for me and I felt com- plete,” Blattner said. “I wanted to do more to understand where we came from and how this has influenced who I am.” Blattner’s fifth great-grand- father was Thomas Hardaway Jr., born in 1713 and died after 1792. He married Agnes Thweatt. Hardaway was a very patriotic person and gave mate- rial goods, guns and money to the Revolutionary cause. Hardaway’s son, John, who was born in 1751, married Elizabeth Maclin, daughter of Frederick Maclin. During the Revolutionary War, he resided in Brunswick County, Va, where he was a lieutenant and major in the Virginia militia and rendered monetary aid. Hardaway was awarded the Sword of Bravery by General George Washington at the Battle of Cowpens in 1781. He was a colonel in the Virginia State Militia from 1777 to 1778, in Brunswick County, Va. He also served as Member of the House of Burgesses from 1775 to 1776; he was also a County Lieutenant. The first Hardaway recorded in the Colonies was a child, born in 1625, named James Hardaway, in Charles City, Va. Daughters of the American Revolution is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. DAR was established in Oregon in 1896. The Oregon Dunes chapter has been active in Florence since it was organ- ized in 2008. As a nonpolitical, lineage organization their mission is to promote historic preserva- tion through four Oregon museums, encourage education through youth programs, and celebrate patriotism through service to our veterans and active duty military per- sonnel. Harmonies are complex and contain as many as six separate parts. In its concert, “The Glory of Love,” at the Florence Events Center tonight, May 30, the group is adding something new: three duets and a solo. These songs all fit into amplifying just what is the glory of love. Somewhat in the spirit of the old-time radio program “The Bickersons,” Lori and Ken Janowski challenge each other in Irving Berlin’s “Anything COURTESY PHOTO The FloTones You Can Do, I Can Do Better,” from “Annie Get Your Gun.” Then John Culp and Kate Redwine think about splitting in the Gershwin classic “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off.” Most everyone knows the clever lyrics, “you say EE-ther and I say EYE-ther, you say NEE-ther and I say NYE- ther…” An apocryphal story says one critic, never having heard it actually performed but seeing only the lyrics, pro- claimed this the dumbest song ever written. One of the original FloTone singers, Jeanni Sanders, joins newest member John Pohlman, who joined the FloTones after his memorable role as Jean Valjean in last fall’s “Les Miserables,” in singing Nat and Natalie Cole’s duet version of “Unforgettable.” Finally, Jan Kinslow announces musically that “Married I Can Always Get,” from “Manhattan Suite” by Gordon Jenkins and recorded by such artists as Patty Page and Robert Goulet. Providing keyboard accom- paniment to the duets and solos will be popular local favorite Marty Adams. Tickets are available at the FEC box office or online for $15. Seating will be limited so get tickets early. For more information, call 541-997-1994.
