SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, MAY 30, 2015 Local public radio station elects new president Jack Kepner has been elect- ed president of KXCR, 90.7 FM, Florence's only noncom- mercial, nonprofit community radio station. Outgoing president and co- founder Don Landstrom swore in Kepner during the board of directors’ regular meeting May 5. “Jack is an outgoing, people- person who folks like,” Landstrom said. “He is very accessible and community serving. Talk to him, he will listen.” Kepner, a native San Franciscan, moved to Florence three years ago. He is a retired appraiser of fine art and antiques and a seasoned auc- tioneer. He became involved with the nonprofit radio station two years ago and has volun- teered his time and talent to KXCR ever since. “Florence is a Mecca for volunteerism; it is an incredi- bly vibrant and giving city,” Kepner said. “Don and others had a vision nearly 10 years ago to build a radio (station) Timothy Patrick June 25 On Thursday, June 25, from 6 to 9 p.m., Timothy Patrick will perform at Traveler’s Cove. Patrick is a Eugene-based musical humorist and loop artist who performs acoustic arrangements of rock, blues, pop, jazz and comedy tunes. KXCR, 90.7 FM, started broadcasting from its head- quarters at Ninth and Nopal streets, across from Siuslaw Public Library, in April 2014. Last Resort Players to hold ‘Chicago’ auditions Florence-based theater group the Last Resort Players (LRP) will hold open auditions for its November production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit “Chicago.” Based on the book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, “Chicago” won six Tony awards and six Drama Desk awards. The sharp-edged satire fea- tures an unforgettable score that inspired the immortal stage direction of Fosse. LRP’s production of “Chicago” will be directed by veteran actor and director David Lauria. Auditions will be held for three days at the Florence Events Center: July 10, from 6 to 9 p.m.; July 11, from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m.; and July 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. The story is set in Chicago during the Roaring Twenties and revolves around “Roxie Hart” and “Velma Kelly,” each of who has been sen- tenced to death row. Each vies for the spotlight and headlines before ulti- mately joining forces in search of the American dream — fame, fortune and acquit- tal.
