Local Toastmaster receives second CC Award Jim Perry was recently honored by Toastmasters International and its local club, The Siuslaw Tale Spinners. Perry, who is already a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), received his second Competent Communicator (CC) award. To qualify for this award, Perry repeated the 10 basic communications projects by presenting a new set of speeches. The basic manual is given to new members to help them develop confidence in their speaking skills, whether they are terrified of speaking in front of groups or just need a little help in polishing long forgotten skills in one-to-one conversations. Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches pub- lic speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations. The American Cancer Society’s canine-themed event raises awareness and money in the fight against all cancers. Bark for Life will include contests, games and a parade. There will be trophies for “Best Dressed Dog” “Biggest Dog,” Smallest Dog,” “Cutest Dog” and a special demonstration of dog tricks by the Tutrax Pak. There will be raffles every 15 minutes.
