OBITUARY

Thomas Ryerson Sr. of
Florence
died May 6,
2015,
just
three days
shy of his
95th birth-
day
while
surrounded
by his fami-

ly.
Ryerson
Born May
9,
1920,
George spent his childhood
years in Piedmont, Calif.
He attended the University
of California, where he met
his beautiful bride of 57 years,
Phyllis Graves. They were
married on June 21, 1941,
before George was called and
bravely served in the U.S.
Army, Infantry Division, dur-
ing World War II.
Upon returning home, he
and his wife began a family,
delighted with the birth of
twins in 1946.
Upon retirement, George
and Phyllis moved to Shingle
Springs, Calif., where he
served as Grand Master of the
Masonic Lodge Hiram 43 in
El Dorado, and did volunteer
work for the Shrine Hospital.
After moving to Florence,
George volunteered for Home
Health and Hospice, deliver-
ing prescriptions to patients
for many years.
He was a member of Re-
surrection Lutheran Church.
George is survived by
daughter Claudia and son-in-
law Jim Ignatieff of Florence;
son George T. Ryerson Jr. and
daughter-in-law Lynne from
Bellevue,
Wash.;
as
well as four grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren.

Extra sheriffs on
patrol for Rhody Days
The Lane County Sheriff’s
office received $20,000 in
combined grant funding for
three types of traffic enforce-
ment focus.
This funding makes possi-
ble the Sheriff’s Office’s par-
ticipation in state and national
campaigns to reduce traffic
crashes, injuries and fatalities
on Lane County roads.
Through grant funding, the
Lane County Sheriff’s Office
will be conducting saturation
patrols in the Florence area
and along Highway 126 this
weekend during the Rhod-
odendron Festival.
Deputies will be focusing
on speeding vehicles, seat belt
compliance and DUII detec-
tion.
The Lane County Sheriff’s
Office is anticipating heavy
traffic and congestion on
Highways 101 and 126 as a
result of the festival.
Motorists are advised to
expect delays in the area and
encouraged to drive safely,
drive sober and always wear
your seatbelt.
IMPOUNDMENTS

son Michael Ryerson; his
brother, William Ryerson; and
his sister, Virginia Johns.
A Memorial Service will be
held Monday, June 8, at
11 a.m., at Resurrection
Lutheran Church, with lunch
following.

rials in George’s name be
given

Resurrection
Lutheran Church or Home
Health and Hospice.
