Florence PTA, SES release community report AARP seeks volunteers
As part of Florence
Community PTA’s partnership
with Siuslaw Elementary
School to complete the
National School of Excellence
program, PTA has released a
Report to the Community.
Research shows that when
families and schools work
together, student achievement
increases, schools improve and
communities grow stronger.
Florence PTA volunteers and
Elementary School staff have
been working on the School of
Excellence program since last
fall. One outcome of the proj-
ect is the release of the May
2015
Report
To
The
Community, a comprehensive
Election
from 1A
In her 40 years in the nursing
field, Russell has been interim
department manager, house
supervisor, charge nurse, man-
ager of a doctor’s office, staff
nurse, U.S. Army social worker
psychology specialist and
worked in the California prison
system.
SVFR’s board of directors
has seven candidates vying for
three open positions.
For SVFR director position 3,
Tony Phillips is running against
incumbent Rob Ward.
Phillips, owner and operator
of Tony’s Garage, is also a
Siuslaw High School graduate.
Ward has a Bachelor of
Science degree from Oregon
State University in forest engi-
neering, is a private land sur-
veyor and used to be a logging
engineer. He has been a SVFR
board member since 2006 and
served as mayor in both
Florence and Dunes City.
For SVFR director position 4,

Carnahan are running against
incumbent Cindy Spinner.

ing and marketing for 40 years
and is the president and CEO of
overview of how family and
community partnerships with
the School are supporting stu-
dent success.
This
Report
to
the
Community is designed for
parents, students, teachers,
school leaders, community
members, local organizations,
businesses and other stakehold-
ers. It highlights what is being
done to build successful fami-
ly-school-community partner-
ships, and what results the
school has seen from these
efforts.
Copies of the report will be
available on the PTA website at
www.FlorencePTA.org as well
as at the elementary school
office, district office, Siuslaw
Public Library and the
Florence Area Chamber of
Commerce.
A condensed version of the
Report will be distributed to
School families as part of the
regular PTA newsletter.
Florence Community PTA
volunteers and school staff
hope this report will raise
awareness of the school’s focus
on excellence, and increase
support and collaboration with-
in the community to promote
student success.
The report is not only an
end-of-year communication
about the state of partnerships
at the school but also a way to
highlight ongoing programs
and events. In addition, the
report will be submitted to the
regional, state and national
PTA organizations to share
experiences and promising
practices for building success-
ful partnerships.
“Family and community
involvement help our students
to succeed,” said Mike
Harklerode,
principal
at
Siuslaw Elementary School.
“We look forward to continued
partnerships with the commu-
nity to make sure all of our stu-
dents reach their fullest poten-
tial.”
