Good Diet = Healthy Teeth
If your child must snack, choose nutritious
foods such as vegetables,
low-fat yogurt, and low-fat cheese
which are healthier and better for
children’s teeth.
This past Monday, May 11, a group of nine Australian cyclists ages 50 and over dipped their toes in the Pacific
Ocean near Florence and embarked on a cross country trek taking them to Yorktown, Va., in an effort to raise
funds for Wheelchiars for Kids. The group of friends converged in Florence from different parts of the world
for the 10-week journey. The money raised will benefit children in Africa in need of rough-terrain wheelchairs.

Track & Field
The sophomore thrower holds the
longest throw in the 4A ranks so
far this year in the discus… 124’
5”. She got that in a victory at the
Wally Ciochetti Invitational last
week in Cottage Grove. In addition
to being the top mark in the state
this year, it’s also the fifth longest
all time throw at Siuslaw. Oliver
also set personal records in two
other events in Cottage Grove, in
the shot put: 34’ 5”; and in the
javelin: 93’6”.
Honorable Mention
Josoph Dotson
Joseph Dotson set the all-time
Siuslaw record in the 300 interme-
diate hurdles with a win in Cottage
Grove. His time of 39.33 seconds
moved him past Collin Cram who
set the previous mark of 39.84
seconds in 2004. Dotson also
moved up to number four on the
all-time Siuslaw list in winning the
400 meters with a time of 50.78
seconds.

Marine Reserves launches new photo contest
Do you like walking on the
beach, watching seabirds, or
just enjoying the views of the
Oregon coast? You can share
how you connect with
Oregon’s marine reserves and
special places by submitting a
photo to “The Sea That Feeds
Us,” a photo contest hosted by
the Oregon Marine Reserves
Partnership and Oviewfinder.
The contest, which ends
October 15, 2015, is a great
way for anyone to share their
connection with Oregon’s five
marine reserves and nine pro-
tected areas by submitting a
photo online.
“Oregon’s marine reserves
mean many things to people,
so we created this photo con-
test to give Oregonians an
opportunity to share how they
connect with these special
places,” said OMRP co-chair
Pete Stauffer. “Anyone can
take a picture to convey their
connection with our marine

reserves.”
The five marine reserves are
Cape Falcon, Cascade Head,
Otter Rock, Cape Perpetua and
Redfish Rocks. The three cate-
gories of photo submissions
include landscapes, people and
fish and wildlife, with prizes
will be awarded in all three
categories.
Submit a photo to Oregon’s
first marine reserve photo con-
test. Prizes will be awarded in
October.
