Dedicated to all teachers and school staff as thanks for their time, dedication and talents
that they generously share every day with our children.
Since 1984, the National PTA has designated the first week in May as a special time to honor the men and women who lend their passion and skills to
educating our children. May 4 through 8, 2015, is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. Teachers and school staff play a key role in student success and
sometimes a simple “thanks” goes a long way making them feel valued. Florence Community PTA thanks the teachers and staff of the Siuslaw School
District for their commitment to educating the children of our community. We acknowledge the crucial role you play in making sure every student receives

How to show appreciation
at your child’s school
Go beyond Teacher and Staff Appreciation
Week to say thanks to those who work with your
children. Expressions of appreciation can build
mutual respect and open the door to better com-
munication about expectations, student perform-
ance and more. Take a moment to recognize the
imperative and inspiring work our teachers and
staff do every day.
Here are some ideas for showing appreciation
and saying thanks to the teachers and staff at
school:
• Ask the teacher what his or her favorite book
is and buy a copy for them or have a copy donat-
ed to the school library. Include in each book a
bookplate with the name of the teacher who chose
the book.
• Give the gift of time: Volunteer at your child’s
school. Contact Vonnie McClellan at 541-997-2651
for information about other volunteer opportunities.
• Write personal thank you notes to teachers
and staff. Say thanks the next time that you speak
to your child’s teacher. Send a quick e-mail
expressing your gratitude.
• Contribute classroom materials, such as paper,
stickers, tissue and pencils. Ask the teacher if there
is something specific that they could use. Or give a
gift certificate for the teacher to purchase the little
extras needed in his or her classroom.
• Have your child share thank you messages
with his or her teacher through notes or artwork.
• Have your child come up with a list of five nice
things they can do for their teachers. They could
pick one to do each of the remaining weeks of
school.
• Don’t forget the staff: custodians, librarians,
office staff, bus drivers, kitchen workers, teachers’
assistants and principals. Honor them as well.
