SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, MAY 2, 2015 5 A Artist reception for Community holds prayer service for quake victims Warpinski at KB Gallery Kenneth B Gallery ann- ounced a new exhibit by pho- tographer Terri Warpinski from May 3 through June 7. A reception for the artist will be Sunday, May 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. Enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar, along with live guitar music by Michael Erbentraut. Warpinski’s elegantly com- posed and visually expansive black and white photographs deliver timeless portrayals of weathered landscapes, show- ing nature’s order amidst human existence. Warpinski lives in Eugene, where she is a Professor of Art at the University of Oregon. In addition to coursework, she teaches workshops, most addressing the landscape as subject or alternative/archaic photographic processes. She has led field courses to the area surrounding the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge for 20 years, initiated a program in the northern Italian village of Oira in 2005 and taught a multi-national field course centered on the Arava Desert of Israel during her Fulbright Fellowship in 2001. On Sunday, May 3, at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, there will be two community prayer services for the vic- tims of the earthquake that struck Nepal, India and China. The services, weather allowing, will begin in the Labyrinth Garden behind the church at 2136 19th St., one block east of Spruce Street. There are many organiza- tions that are involved in the relief effort, but the church recommends the following agencies because of their Florence connections: Habitat for Humanity (the interna- tional program has a large presence in Nepal, and is already active in relief efforts there); Episcopal Relief and COURTESY PHOTO St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church’s Labyrinth Garden, will feature in Sunday’s prayer service for the recent earth- quake victims. Development, an internation- al aid program with an out- standing record of efficient international disaster relief; or the International Red Cross. Checks made out to these organizations should have a subscript: “Nepal Relief.” Donations will be symboli- cally walked to the center of the labyrinth, and then will be gathered into three large envelopes and mailed imme- diately to the three organiza- tions, after the contributions have been prayed over by the assembled community. Participants are invited to attend the regular Sunday services of St. Andrew’s, which will start just after the community prayer servic- es. For more information on this community effort, call Bob DuBose or Rev. Georgia DuBose at 541-590-3371. Bill Fleenor guest speaker Soups On to read prayer requests Monday for Universal Unitarians On Sunday, May 3, from 10 to 11 a.m., the Florence Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will be featuring Bill Fleenor as the guest speaker.
