PeaceHealth awarded Certificate of Excellence The Oregon Health Authority has awarded PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center with a Certificate of Excellence for exceeding the U.S Department of Health and Human Services 2020 Healthcare Worker Influenza Vaccination goal of 90 per- cent. Peace Harbor’s healthcare worker influenza vaccination rate for 2013-2014 influenza season was 94 percent, which makes it the third-highest in the state of Oregon for the 2013-2014 season. “It is wonderful to be rec- ognized by the state for our healthcare worker flu vaccina- tion rates,” said Cassandra Antosz, RN with Employee Health and Safety at PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center. “This just illustrates the commitment of our medical center and care- givers to the safety and health of our patients and our com- munity.” Immunizations of health- care workers is a critical weapon in the fight against influenza virus infection, which causes thousands of hospitalizations and deaths annually, severely impacting vulnerable populations such as people with chronic med- ical conditions, young chil- dren, infants, pregnant women and seniors. Infected workers can inad- vertently transmit influenza to patients and each other. Oregon has been gradually adding requirements for mandatory reporting of vacci- nation rates in healthcare facilities and PeaceHealth Peace Harbor is among the highest in employee vaccina- tion rates.
