MID COAST LAKES
The rainbow trout stock-
ing program is in full
swing and most water bod-
ies have been stocked
recently or will be soon
again. Most areas will be
stocked multiple times
until early June. Be sure to
check out the 2015 stock-
ing schedule for the most
up to date information.
Fishing for the various
warm water fish species
can be productive during
the spring months as lake
temperatures start to rise
and fish begin spawning.
Anglers will start finding
more fish up in the shal-
lows over the next month.
Sunday morning, about 50
participants gathered in the
Florence Events Center parking
lot for the second annual
Community Health Fair 5K Fun
Run/Walk. The early morning
jaunt followed the same 5K
course as next month’s
Rhododendron Run.

Event gives Siuslaw
preview of state-level

Siuslaw News
Last weekend’s Oregon Relays at
Hayward Field in Eugene included teams
from as far away as Los Angeles and
Anchorage during two days of track com-
petition among all divisions.
On Saturday, several Vikings set per-
sonal bests while getting a taste of what
this season’s state competition will be like
at Track Town U.S.A. Among those who
set personal records was senior Seth
Campbell, who finished the 3,000-meter
race in 8:58.26 for a PR and 17th place.
Campbell then went on to place eighth in
the 800 meters (1:59.10). Both races
came on the heels of a pair of second-
place finishes earlier that week in the 800
meters and 400 meters during the Far
West Invitational in Coos Bay.
Freshman Josh Payne had two PRs on
Saturday, beginning with the 100-meter
wheelchair event, which he finished in
second place with a time of 23.38.
Payne’s PR time of 44.19 in the 200-
meter wheelchair race earned him a third-
place medal.
Other standout performances at the
invitation-only meet came from senior
Joe Dotson, who won the javelin in the
prep division with a personal best mark of
160-10.

Steelhead
The winter steelhead
fishery is starting to slow
down for the season but
decent numbers of fish are
still around the Whittaker
Creek area. The river
should fish well later in the
Viks at home and the Viking
boys’ team on the road.
Neither team came away
with a win, although the
Viking boys came the closest
with a narrow 12-11 loss to the
Pirates — who also won the
second game, 11-1.
Back at Siuslaw, the Lady
Viks were unable to stop
Marshfield’s offensive fire-
power, which claimed 40 hits
between the two match-ups.
