Tickets for the annual Soroptimist Rose Sale are available now through April 20, for $20 per dozen. Rose delivery will be April 29 to the recipient’s home or work. BBQ to benefit The Florence Toastmasters, Wayne Crosthwaite Siuslaw Tale Spinners, will host an Eric Winger workshop on Saturday, April 11, called. “Public Speaking 101 and Beyond.” The class is geared for the novice and professional alike and will be held at the Florence Playhouse, 208 Laurel St. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the first session, Public Speaking Tips, starts at 9 a.m. The afternoon session, Guided Speech Evaluations, starts at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited. In addition to exhibiting flowers, rhododen- drons and azaleas will be for sale. The exhibit will include azal- eas, rhododendrons and Bonsai. The show is free and open to the public. Times will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Mapleton Lions to host breakfast The Mapleton Lions Club will host its next monthly pan- cake breakfast Sunday, April 12, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Mapleton Lions Club, 88148 Riverview Drive in Mapleton. Coast Guard offers boating classes The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct an 8- hour boating safety education course Saturday, April 18, in Charleston. The course covers the basics of boating safety, rules of the road and Oregon boating laws. A test at the end of the course will qualify boaters for their Boater Education Card, under the Oregon Mandatory Boater Education Program. The Boater Education Card is required for all motorboat operators of all ages for boats more than 10 horsepower. Additional provisions apply to youths. The cost of the course and materials is $15. LCC seeks volunteers for ESL program The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Lane Community College Florence Center is in need of volunteers. On Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., ESL needs one volunteer to help a student study for the citizenship test. Thursday mornings, 10 a.m. to noon, a volunteer is need- ed to help mid-level ESL stu- dents with English conversa- tion.
