Photographer Ken McDougal featured at FRAA
FLORENCE — On April 11, from 3
to 5 p.m., a reception will be held for
Ken McDougal, featured photographer
at Florence Regional Arts Alliance Art
Center, 4969 Highway 101, during the
Second Saturday Gallery Tour.
McDougal arrived in Florence on
June 4, 2012, after a six-day journey
from Jacksonville, Fla.
He had been doing the usual images
— portraits, weddings, ads, etc. — until
he received a calling to come Florence
and practice the fine art photography he
creates today.
In March, McDougal’s artistic eye
captured a photo of the Siuslaw River
Bridge in a unique way that landed him
the cover of the 2015 Florence Business
Profile, a Siuslaw News magazine.
His passion takes him out most days
in the early morning hours or late after-
noon when the best lighting bathes the
scenic areas, nature and wildlife he cap-
tures in his phenomenal photographs.
McDougal has been a professional
photographer for nearly 20 years and
studied communication and broadcast-
ing for three years at Lyndon State
College in Vermont before moving on to
The New York Institute of Photography
(NYI) for two years until graduating in
1990.
After working for a national photogra-
phy company for 10 years, he resigned
Siuslaw River Bridge by award-winning photographer Ken McDougal
his position and started his own compa-
ny called Ken McDougal Photography.
Since moving to Florence, McDougal
has won several local awards while
establishing himself as one of the latest
Community Chorus to present
‘Hooray for Hollywood’
FLORENCE — At 2 p.m. on May 3, a
musical performance called “Hooray for
Hollywood” will be presented by the
Community Chorus of Florence Oregon
(CCFO) at the Florence Events Center.
The program, under the baton of interim
director Paul Guthmuller, will include
many songs from popular motion pictures
of the past. In addition to a medley of
favorite tunes, the chorus will sing several
other unusual favorites, including the
theme from the James Bond series of
movies.
Special guests performing at the concert
include Florence favorite the Flo Tones. In
addition, the Siuslaw Children’s Choir,

consisting of students in grades three to
six, will also perform.
Elise Arnold will direct both the chil-
dren’s choir and the Chorus’ James Bond
theme.
The May concert will highlight the
Chorus’ scholarship program and recipi-
ent(s) will be announced.
Tickets for the concert are available at
the Florence Events Center and are $15 for
adults, with children under 18 years of age
admitted free.

up-and-coming artists in the photograph-
ic community. He is also on the execu-
tive board of the Siuslaw Viewfinder’s
Camera Club and a member of the
FRAA.
McDougal and his wife, Kim, are also
members of the Florence Four Square
Church here in Florence.
The FRAA will exhibit McDougal’s
work for the month of April.
‘True Story Tuesdays’ continues
at City Lights Cinemas
FLORENCE — Documentaries take
many forms and points of view, inform-
ing viewers about worlds that may oth-
erwise elude them. Documentaries at
City Lights Cinemas will continue each
Tuesday and include:
• April 7: “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be
Me.” After learning of his Alzheimer’s
diagnosis, Campbell embarks on a
farewell tour.
• April 14: “Ballet 422.” From first
rehearsal to world premiere, the story of
a new ballet.
• April 21: “National Gallery.” Go
inside one of the great museums of the
world.
• April 28: “An Honest Liar.” The
story of the “Amazing” Randi, famous
debunker of magicians, frequently seen
on The Johnny Carson Show.
“Documentaries are as entertaining
as narrative features to me,” says
Michael Falter, co-owner of City Lights
Cinemas. “The most amazing stories
are our own — and good documentaries
help define our world. We’re excited to
show more of them at City Lights.”
Admission prices are $6.50 for mem-
bers, $7 for children 12 and under,
$7.50 for matinees, $8 for seniors and
$9 for regular admission. City Lights
