Local photographer Ken McDougal featured at FRAA
On April 11, from 3 to 5
p.m., a reception will be held
for Ken McDougal, featured
photographer at Florence
Regional Arts Alliance Art
Center, 4969 Highway 101,
during the Second Saturday
Gallery Tour.
McDougal
arrived
in
Florence on June 4, 2012, after
a six-day journey from
Jacksonville, Fla. He had been
doing the usual images — por-
traits, weddings, ads, etc. —
until he received a calling to
come Florence and practice the
fine art photography he creates
today.
In March, McDougal’s artis-
tic eye captured a photo of the
Siuslaw River Bridge in a
unique way that landed him the
cover of The 2015 Florence
Business Profile, a Siuslaw
News magazine.
His passion takes him out
most days in the early morning
hours or late afternoon when
the best lighting bathes the sce-
nic areas, nature and wildlife he
captures in his phenomenal
photographs.
McDougal has been a profes-
sional photographer for nearly
20 years and studied communi-
cation and broadcasting for
three years at Lyndon State
College in Vermont before
moving on to The New York
Institute of Photography (NYI)
for two years until graduat-
ing in 1990.
After working for a
national photography com-
pany for 10 years, he
resigned his position and
started his own company
called
Ken
McDougal
Photography. Since moving
to Florence, McDougal has
won several local awards
while establishing himself as
one of the latest up-and-com-
ing artists in the photograph-
ic community. He is also on
the executive board of the
Siuslaw
Viewfinder's
Camera Club and a member
of the FRAA.
