At Shorewood’s St. Patrick’s Day senior game night, bingo players each
got $25 worth of chips to start. Everyone received a corned beef and cab-
bage dinner, mint chocolate chip ice cream, local beer, champagne and
soda pop. Prizes were fresh-cut flowers, videos, gardening gloves, seeds,

Artists sought for FRAA port project
The Florence Public Art
Steering Committee, a sub-
committee of the Florence
Regional Arts Alliance, is
requesting proposals for one
piece of artwork to be placed at
the western end of the Port of
Siuslaw Marina, in the land-
scaped section facing Bay
Street.
This location provides high
visibility from both Bay Street
and the Port property. the piece
should be designed to provide
an attractive and impactful
impression of the port and Old
Town to both local residents
and visitors.
The piece is intended to be
the first in a series of public art
pieces to be placed in strategic
locations throughout the city,
following consultation and
approval from city leaders and
the formation of a permanent
Public Art Committee.
Design specifications and
guidelines include:
• Artwork must present a
theme consistent with this par-
ticular location at the end of
the Port — that is, a nautical
design that could, for example,
incorporate marine life, aviary,
boats, etc. (these are examples
only), and should recognize
items and species that are spe-
cific to the Pacific Northwest.
• To ensure maximum
impact and visibility, the piece
should stand between eight and
10 feet tall and could be up to
four feet in diameter. The port
will provide a base for the
piece.
• Each work will be evaluat-
ed to make sure it does not
present a hazard to public safe-
ty, and must conform to ADA
standards.
The committee will place a
small plaque in an appropriate
place, not to detract from the
artwork, to recognize the artist
and donors who made the pur-
chase of the artwork possible.
Submission and selection
criteria is as follows:
• Submissions
should
include a resume of the artist,
including references. They
should outline their experience
with public and/or outdoor art,
including pictures of finished
work and details of where and
when it was done and pricing.
Artists should submit a visu-
al representation of their pro-
posal in pdf, or jpeg format.
• All submissions must be e-
mailed with the following
information to be considered

What is the best prank you’ve been a part of?
“I was just at my 50th high
school reunion. I went with my
twin brother and my daughter-
in-law. We introduced her to
everyone as my brother’s wife.
She is gorgeous, young and
here’s my brother.... Everybody
patted my brother on the back.”

“When we were little, my
brother and I made our mom
eggs with green dye in them for
her April Fool’s Day breakfast.
We also put a Slinky into anoth-
er pan with a lid, thinking it
would spring out. It obviously
didn’t work. Epic fail.”

“We crumpled up computer
printouts and stuffed them into
the boss’s glass-walled office,
chest high, while he was on
vacation. But nobody told the
janitor. My boss came back to a
clean office and the janitor was
angry for months.”

“My best prank was on my
mom. She had just bought a dog
and it was constantly chasing
cars. (One day) I heard a car
screeching by ... and I screamed
that her dog just got hit. She
cried. ... April Fools!”
