SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25, 2015 11 A Oregon DAR to hear about Patrick Henry March 27 The Oregon Dunes Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, March 27 program will feature retired history teacher Ray Brown, a “Son of Liberty.” Brown will be presenting the history of Patrick Henry on this visit. A Founding Father, Patrick Henry served as the first and sixth post-colonial Governor of Virginia. Henry led the opposition to The Stamp Act in 1765 and is remembered for his “Give me liberty, or give me death!” speech. Along with Samuel Adams and Thomas Paine, he is regarded as one of the most influential champions of Republicanism and an invest- ed promoter of the American Revolution and its fight for independence. Brown regularly does pre- sentations on the Declaration of Independence and the form- ing of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights while dressed in period-correct colonial attire. He tells of historical figures, their patriotism, hope and per- severance, and what it means to us today. In addition, he recently completed a cross-country walk from Florence to Atlantic City, N.J., to help raise an awareness for the importance of studying American history and the Constitution.
