Farmers markets open in Coquille, Myrtle Point COQUILLE — The Coquille and Myrtle Point Farmers Markets will open mid-March. Coquille will be Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Mill Street right off Highway 42 at the traffic light. The Coquille market will also host a poultry swap on opening day. Myrtle Point will be Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the end of the OSU Extension Service parking lot on the grass. The address is 631 Alder Street. Both markets have plenty of parking for vendors and customers alike; both farmers markets have signs out on the market day. Spring is the time these two markets feature a variety of young livestock grown and sold by local farmers. Customers just cannot wait to start rais- ing those baby chicks and other animals. Easter is April 5 and the farmers will have a large supply and variety of farm fresh eggs for the occasion: buttonquail, regular quail, duck, chicken (different col- ors), goose, and emu. There will be blown goose eggs. There may also be the first of many varieties of plants such as vegetable, bedding, and house. Even this early, there will be some- thing for everyone. Other items offered will include: baked goods, homemade soap and beauty prod- ucts, jewelry, and many more diverse, high quality handcrafted items all pro- duced locally. As time goes along, more crafts, veg- gies, services (related to farmers markets), and food items will become available. People should get their foods and prod- ucts from the source. These markets will provide an abundance of fresh local foods to consumers while creating a space for local artisans to sell their wares. Instead of going to the mall and looking at what was made elsewhere, come to these farm- ers markets and see items that are local. It is a great way to while away some time among great, resourceful folks who will become your new friends. WIC and Senior coupons are always welcome. Are you interested in sharing your tal- ents and wares at your local Farmers Markets? New vendors are always wel- come. For more information and to get involved, call 541-297-0634.
