Siuslaw splits with Douglas as season winds down
Vik boys stave off
Douglas; girls
nearly score upset

Siuslaw News
The Viking boys began
Tuesday’s road game at
Douglas with a lot of steam and
easily took an early lead against
the winless Trojans.
But in the second quarter, the
Vikings saw their lead dwindle
as Douglas rallied to tie the
game by halftime.
Coming back from the break,
Siuslaw regained its momen-
tum and easily outscored the
Trojans by 20 for an eventual
70-57 lead for the Viks’ high-
est-scoring game of the season.
That same evening, a ripple
went through the Far West
League as the previously unde-
feated Bulldogs of North Bend
were dealt their first loss of the
season by cross-town rival
Marshfield, 57-47.
The win by the Pirates creat-
ed a tie for first place at 8-1,
with North Bend taking on
Siuslaw last night (after press
deadlines).
In the girls game Tuesday
night, the Lady Viks (2-7) near-
ly managed their own upset
victory over second-place
Douglas (7-2) after taking the
lead late in the fourth quarter
before the Trojans were able to
escape with a narrow 51-42 win
to hold on to second place in
the league.
Brookings, meanwhile,
maintained its undefeated sta-
tus (9-0) after easily beating
winless South Umpqua, 64-26.
Fourth-place North Bend (4-
5) managed an upset over third-
place Marshfield (5-4) with a
47-38 victory.
Last night, Siuslaw hosted
North Bend (after press dead-
lines) as both Viking teams fin-
ished out the season at home.
