FLORENCE — Kenneth B Gallery has opened a new exhibit by JoAnn Chartier of Cheshire. The exhibit runs through March 7. Portraying nature with paint on canvas has been a goal of artists since cave dwellers painted on rock walls. Centuries later, those cave paintings still carry enor- mous power by way of their symbolism and historical representations of the world outside our front door. “Landscapes are fundamentally com- pelling and the Oregon landscape is a painter’s paradise,” said Chartier. “It’s my delight to explore reflections of light on layers of nature. Hillsbery offers basic watercolor classes FLORENCE — Award-winning local artist Carole Hillsbery will offer several classes beginning March 28. The first class, Absolute Beginner’s Watercolor Class, will demonstrate the various watercolor techniques and colors Hillsbery uses. She will also teach the basics, such as what materials to purchase and where, a discussion of what watercolor is all about, terminology, color washes, mixing etc. It’s a relaxed time to ask questions, see if you enjoy her style, and to take pic- tures. The first class is free and will not require any painting. The class, set for Saturday, March 28, will be from 10 a.m. to noon. There is a limit of 12 participants.
