NIELSON —Aletha (Vibbert) Nielson, 80, a life- l o n g Oregonian and descen- dant of a pio- neer family, died Jan. 26, 2015, at her home on the Siuslaw Aletha Nielson River near Florence after a long illness. Aletha was born in remote Ashwood in Central Oregon, one of four children of Allan and Ethel Vibbert. The family later moved to Salem, where she attended Salem Academy. She married Jack Utterback in 1952, and the couple had three children: Jack, Glenn and Chloe. They later divorced. She married Ed Nielson in 1975. A successful business- woman, Aletha once owned several businesses in Newport. She prepared taxes for many people over the years, earning a reputation of finding money when other tax preparers couldn’t. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, and was devoted to her rescued dog, Cali, an Italian greyhound. Aletha was preceded in death by her parents; her hus- band Ed Nielson; her brother Roy Vibbert; and her sister Henrietta Vibbert. She is survived by Jack of LaPine; Glenn of Florence; Chloe of Eugene; Christopher of Salem; sister-in-law Bernita of Salem; her brother Jim Vibbert of Salem; 18 grand- children and numerous great- grandchildren. A celebration of life potluck will be held in Salem on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m., in the community hall at Sun Dial Mobile Home Park at 2310 Lancaster Drive SE. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. FRANKLIN —Max William Franklin passed away Jan. 28, 2015, sur- rounded by his loved ones. He was born to Ace R. and Eva E. (Hunt) Max Franklin Franklin on March 31, 1938, in Coquille, Ore. He was raised in Bandon, Ore., with his two brothers, Rodney and Richard. The Franklin Boys were well known in town. He joined the Army in 1955, where he was trained as a paratrooper. He also was an U.S. Army marksman and toured with the marksmen in competitions. He served in Germany, driv- ing the commander’s tank and guarding the east/ west border. After leaving the Army he came home to Oregon and set- tled. He drove tanker trucks for Shell Oil Co., and became their driving instructor. Later he commercial fished for a few years after Shell released its trucks. He was a chip truck driver for Foglio Trucking in Florence, and later retired from Miles Oil Co., as its tanker driver. After retirement, he and his wife, Jan, traveled the country, sightseeing and visiting family. Winters were spent in Arizona where he loved walk- ing and riding quads in the desert. Survivors include his wife, Jan of Florence: sons Michael (Geneie) of Sweet Home, Ore., Robert (Christy) of Everett, Wash., Bradley (Olivia) of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Jamie (Brandi) of Macon, Ga.; daughter Deanna (Stephen) of Glenbrook; 10 grandchildren: Max, Michelle, Shawn, Anna, Jordan, Lauren Elizabeth, Alex, Aidan, Kate and Brinley; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Rodney and Richard; and a nephew, Richard Jr. A graveside service will be held Friday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m., at the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Springfield, Ore. There will be a gathering at Community Baptist Church in Florence, from 4 to 6 p.m. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is charge of all arrangements. LIGHT—Corbie Darrel Light, 55, of Greenlief, Ore., passed away Jan. 22, 2015, of an apparent heart attack while doing what he loved – working outdoors. Corbie Light Corbie was born in Salem, Ore., on Dec. 3, 1959, to Zella and Bernard Light. He was an avid fisherman, worked at Fircrest Farms and was a painter. He was always there to “Corbie rig” a stranded motorist or friend. Corbie was preceded in death by his parents, Zella and Bernard Light; a brother, Kevin; and a sister, Sybil. He is survived by twin sis- ters, Valeri and Vickie Light; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to cele- brate Corbie’s life will be held this summer. These payments are facilitat- ed by the victim buying pre- paid credit or gift cards, and providing redemption informa- tion to the suspect(s) over the phone. Similar incidents have been reported in the past in Lane County. Florence Police reminds cit- izens that this is not a legiti- mate activity and county and state agencies do not utilize this method to collect official payments.
