This event provides a wonderful opportunity for City of Florence’s volunteers to come together over lunch, meet and greet one another and have a little fun. Another annual tradition will be the announcement of the City of Florence volunteer of the year. Prior winners have included Bonnie MacDuffee, Hal Weiner and Andy Belk. These individuals continue to be honored through a perpetual plaque on display at Florence City Hall. For more information about this event or about volunteering at the City of Florence, or on any of the City Committees, contact City Recorder Kelli Weese at 541-997-3437, or via email at kelli.weese@ci.fl orence.or.us Indoor Yard Sale Saturday, February 21, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Page 4 “Have you ever had a really big dream?” asks C.R.O.W. Artistic Director and Founder, Melanie Heard. “A dream that you know is doable, but nevertheless you’re feeling a rare combination of excited and terrifi ed at the same time?” On Friday, February 13 at 7 p.m. C.R.O.W. (Children’s Repertory of Oregon Workshops) will present an incredible opportunity for the Florence community to become personally involved in building the dreams of local kids. “Share Your Heart” is a fundraising party designed to raise funds for the 501 (c)3’s biggest and most important dream to date. Reservations are required for this event. Single tickets are $39 for adults and $25 for youth (12 and under). A full table of 8 can also be purchased for $285. Tickets include wine (adults only) and hot hors d’oeuvres, as well as a chance to bid on the amazing baskets, prizes, and desserts up for grabs. The evening will culminate with a “Raise Your Paddle” donation opportunity that we hope will kick off fundraising with a big bang! For tickets please call the Florence Events Center at (541) 997- 1994, or purchase tickets online at www.eventcenter.org. “Share Your Heart” will feature the donated vocal talents of local celebrities, Marty Adams, Mary Beers, Michael Jacobson, Sheena Moore, Jacob Steinberger, and Jason Wood, as well as a silent auction fi lled with incredible products and services from local businesses. Perhaps the most heart-warming portion of the evening will be when several of C.R.O.W.’s most talented, hard-working youngsters will entertain the audience. “These kids are amazing, and they are the reason that we are doing any of this,” says Heard. “Share Your Heart” is the fi rst step toward realizing the dream. C.R.O.W. is planning to purchase and renovate a building in Florence for the purpose of creating a permanent performing arts facility for youth. The facility will house ongoing classes in dance, theatre, voice, and other fi ne and performing arts genres, as well as provide desperately needed space for rehearsals, small performances, set construction and artistry, and proper costume and prop storage. This facility will allow C.R.O.W. to grow its already thriving youth arts program, which has a four year successful track record. C.R.O.W.’s design is unlike any other in the United States because it offers performance opportunities to children free of charge. C.R.O.W. is currently in production for Once Upon A Mattress,” which will take the stage April 10-12 at the Florence Events Center and will feature about 50+ onstage and behind the scenes roles for young people ages 5-22. “It’s time for this change,” says Heard, “We all realize that it’s the most logical and crucial next step we can take. Our kids deserve so much more than a part-time arts education. Additionally, we have big plans for giving back to the community in even more ways, through added outreach to schools, more scholarships for summer camps, a Senior center outreach program, and “anti-bullying” and “literacy building” theatrical programs, targeting students of various grade levels. “We need a nest, because we have lots of fl ying to do!” R o t a r y ’s 2 0 1 5 Au c t i o n : “A R o a r i n g G o o d Ti m e” S a t u rd a y, M a rc h 1 4 , 5 p. m . - Ti c ke t s $ 6 0 Saturday, March 14, will be “A Roaring Good Time for Giving,” according to local Rotarians. The upcoming Roaring Twenties extravaganza has pledged to set another fundraising record to fund scholarships for local young people. The auction is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at the Florence Events Center. Expect to see a bit of “Great Gatsby” combined with some “Downton Abbey” as Rotarians dress the part. Some may even be seen dancing the Charleston or sipping a little speakeasy champagne. A capacity crowd of 260 is expected, according to auction co-chair Bobbi Brubaker. Tables are already near sell-out. Anyone interested in sponsoring a table at this year’s event should call Kim Erickson at 541-902-9807 for tickets and information. In 2014, the Florence Rotary contributed more than $45,000 in scholarships for students at Siuslaw and Mapleton High Schools and Lane Community College. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $10,000 and support students in both community college and university degree programs. “We have already raised more than $1 million through our auction program,” says co-chair Kevin McMullen. “We’re headed for our second million, and we continue to be excited about the academic and professiona accomplishments of our past scholarship winners.” The Florence Events Center website: www.eventcenter.org
