OBITUARIES
He married Gwen Robinson
in 1957, and they had three
children, Peggy Sue Hardman

and Raymond Beal (Debbie).
Jerry was a life member of
the Florence Elks Lodge and
will be remembered for years to
come not only as a member but
also as a bartender.
He was also an avid member
of the NRA. For many years he
worked at Davidson Industries
and loved his job very much.
He enjoyed woodworking and,
because of his skills, donated
many projects to children.
He was happiest living in

2014.
He is survived by two sisters:

years took great pride in restor-
ing the houses and property and
developing a community with
the tenants, including building
a community garden, fish pond,
and free-range chicken yards.
Hans was fond of his
German shepherds, motorcy-
cles, old trucks and boats, but
his true love was people.
He was a sweet, kind and
gentle soul with a sparkle in his
eye and a smile on his face.
Wherever Hans went, he would
always take time to make new
friends. He loved to learn what
made people tick and to affirm
them and lighten their burden
in some way.
Hans spent many years
active with the Eugene Faith
Center and volunteered on mis-
sion trips to Nepal and Mexico.
He served his community over
the years on the Mapleton
School
Board,
Siuslaw
Watershed Council and Siuslaw
Surfrider chapter.
He especially loved his sea-
sonal acting career in the Holly
Jolly Follies. Quick with a
smile and encouraging word,
he brightened the lives of all
those who had the privilege to
share moments with him. He
was preceded in death by his
father Willi and brother
Stephan.
A celebration of Hans’ life
will be held in the big red barn
at the east entrance to
Swisshome Village at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, Jan. 17.
