Mayor Rebecca Ruede and Councilors Sheldon Meyer and Duke Wells took the oath of office for another term. Kenneth Platt, who was elected as a write-in candidate in November, was not present at the meeting. Councilor Jamie Mills was re-elected as council president. First Citizen Awards have been a tradition for decades. The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce now hosts the event, which has become part of a yearly banquet and cere- mony known as the Siuslaw Awards. Phil Brubaker, Bonnie MacDuffee and Cindy Wobbe have been nominated for the 2014 award. A panel of judges will review the submitted applications and the win- ner will be named Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Siuslaw Awards ceremo- ny at the Florence Events Center.
