auto.
Nielson married the former
Marilyn Minden in 1953; they
divorced in 1974. In 1978, he
married Aletha Vibbert, a union
that lasted until his death.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; siblings Don
Nielson and Mary Lou
(Nielson) Geil; and daughter
Beth (Nielson) Pfefferkuch.
Nielson is survived by his
wife, Aletha; his children: Scott
Nielson of Vancouver, Wash.,
Jeff Nielson of Corvallis, Barb
(Nielson) Duggins of Bend,
Tessa (Nielson) Mabe of
Toledo, Jack Utterback of
LaPine, Glen Utterback of
Florence, and Pam St. Clair of
Eugene ; 16 grandchildren and
numerous great-grandchildren.
Burns Funeral Home of
Florence is in charge of
arrangements.
LAWRENCE—C. Robert
(Bob) Lawrence, 84, formerly
of Florence, passed away Sept.
30, 2014, at his daughter’s
home in Virginia.
Bob was born in Sharon,
Ohio, on Dec. 8. 1931, to Nellie
L. Archibald. He served in the
U.S. Navy during the Korean
War.
He met and married Ardis
Byerley while stationed at a
Navy base in Alameda, Calif.
They were married for 52 years
when she died March 22, 2007.
After retiring, Bob and Ardis
spent four to five years RVing
until they settled in Florence.
He become interested in the
local Elks Lodge and went on

NIELSON—Edwin John
Nielson, 81, a lifelong
Oregonian and self-appointed
“Mayor of Minerva,” died Jan.
2, at his home off the north fork
of the Siuslaw River.
Nielson was born Dec. 13,
1933, in Forest Grove to Agnes
(Herb) and James Nielson. He
grew up at family homes in old
Detroit (now covered by water
by the Detroit Dam complex)
and Stayton, graduating from
Stayton Union High School in
1952. A talented athlete, he for
several years held the record
for the mile run at Stayton High
School.
He spent most of his adult
life working as a logger in the
Oregon Cascades and Coast
Range. Nielson greatly enjoyed
the outdoors and hunting, fish-
ing and camping. He excelled
at making his own trout lures
