Engineer I. J. Mm rill of Sterling,
111., has returr.ed from a trip to
Imnaha, Mr. Merrill made the trip
to the mining district for the purpose
of viewing the route for the telephone
line which will I immediately con
structed by the Miners Telephone
Company from Lew is ton to Ballard
landing, with brajveh lines covering
the Salmon river aid eastern Oregon
country. Mr. Merrill made the triu
aloiiR the river and found the condi-
tions very fuvorable for the construc
tion of tba line. The company is
negotiating with parties for the deliv
ery of telephone poles along the route.

Eureka Smelting company, was also
an arrival yesterday from tho linnaha
mines, and he will leave today ou a
business trip to Wuukon, la. Mr.
Howard has K-en in tho district for
some time in connection with tlie
preliminary work of the smelter com
pany. This work is now beiu vigor
ously prosecuted and with tnch day

Howard, of Decorah, la., electrical
engineers, will reach here early nest
weik enroute to Imnnha, where they
will commence definite work on the

Imnaha creek to develop jwwer for
the miultcr plant. A preliminary
survey for thia work wag made some
time ago, and the detail will now be
perfected. The plan of tho MiiolUr
company is to rush all work at the
mines and have it completed prior to
the inauguration of the boat service
when the delixery of the smelter
