teaching reading. Tho discussion
which followed the reading of the
paper was quite instructive and
brought out many good points. The
discussion finally took a turn and
ran into spelling nnd the subject was
quite thoroughly discussed. Next
was the subject of Geography by map
drawing by M. K. Manning, of Enter
prise. The theory was that maps
were to be hastily sketched by the
pupils and the principal places, pro

Psychology. The discussion was on
the line of the use of Psychology.
Many good discussions were offered

The most flagrant violations of the
law are alleged in the Koseburg, Lake
view and Dalles land districts. Ac
cording to the Secretary's advices peo-
p e are being slopped into these d's-

limber and stone act. In other in
stances large tracts are being denudeu
f th.ir timber by parties who aie

Tnere is strong proof that a large
lumber of these alleged mincjal loca
tions are on non mineral land and
have been made for the purpose of ac
quiring the timaer. As a fust step in
this direction Secretary , Hitchcock
n.rs ordered that all entries in Oregon
under the timber and stone act be
suspended pending specific investiga
tion, aud directed that each timbtr
eiitryman be served with a notice to
uj.v causa why his entry should not
be conceited. If, during this suspen
sion, any eiitryman attempt to cut
or remove timber limn tu tr.,..t
sought by him, he will be prosecuted
to the full fxteut of the law.
The ordered investigation will in
clude the land offices at Kosobunr.
